PETITION
TO THE COMMISSION ON PRESIDENTIAL DEBATES

ALLOW SERIOUS "THIRD PARTY" CANDIDATES INTO THE DEBATES!
WHEREAS a vibrant democracy depends on the ability of the people to hear and consider all points of view, and
WHEREAS a candidate, to have a fair chance to win a presidential election, must be included in the debates featuring candidates for president, and
WHEREAS, in recent years, the level of support in public opinion polls that a candidate must have, to be included in the debates, has been set unreasonably high – creating a Catch-22 effect, in which a candidate cannot get support without appearing in debates but cannot appear in debates without a high level of support,

THEREFORE, we the undersigned call upon the Commission on Presidential Debates to set the standard for support in polls at a reasonable level, no more than five percent, so that all serious candidates will have a chance to participate.
