ConservativeHQ Chairman Richard Viguerie said recently that the most important political battle in America today is not the fight between liberals and conservatives, it is the fight between the Big Government establishment Republicans and small government constitutional conservatives for control of the Republican Party. Viguerie proposed that conservatives takeover the Republican Party and has offered the $10,000 Liberty Prize to stimulate submission of plans and ideas for the conservative takeover of the GOP.
We wondered if CHQ readers, especially the ones who have yet to submit a plan or idea on how conservatives might take over the GOP, supported the idea of a conservative takeover of the Republican Party.
According to the results of our online poll, 87% of CHQ readers support the idea of a conservative takeover of the Republican Party. Only 12% want to keep things as they are, even though the GOP has only won a popular vote majority once in the past 6 presidential elections.
We asked: “What do you think, is it time for conservatives to take over the Republican Party?”
87% said “Yes, losing in 2012 to Obama in the midst of a horrible economy proves it's time for new conservative leadership in the GOP.”
12% said “No, keep things as they are, even though the GOP has only won a popular vote majority once in the past 6 presidential elections.”
1% were undecided.
