Ted Cruz Nails Defects In Rubio – Obama Immigration Bill

Ted Cruz, the Tea Party backed Senator from Texas, has lived-up to our hopes that he would continue to rock the Washington establishment’s comfortable little boat by filing five tough amendments to the “Gang of Eight” amnesty for illegal aliens bill backed by President Obama, the Democratic leadership in the Senate, and also advocated by fellow Republican Florida Senator Marco Rubio.

Rubio cartoonCruz’s most important amendment is one that would render ineligible for United States citizenship any person who had “previously been willfully in the United States in unlawful status.” You can read the amendment designated DAV13373 through this link.

Ted Cruz’s amendment DAV13373 is important for a lot of reasons; obviously if it passed it would disrupt the Democratic Party’s plan to remake America and obtain a multi-generational hold on power.

The amendment also puts those in the business community who have been backing the Gang of Eight bill in the hopes of maintaining a cheap labor supply in the awkward position of having to decide whether they want 11 million-plus recipients added to the nation’s government benefit rolls, whose benefits will be mainly funded by their tax dollars.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, it puts Republicans, like Senator Marco Rubio, in the position of having to show their cards and declare whether or not they are going to go along with the Democratic Party’s plan to remake America.

Rubio and other Republicans who are inclined to back the Gang of Eight bill have justified their position on the basis that “legalizing” illegal immigrants (granting them amnesty in all but name) is the right thing to do for humanitarian reasons to prevent them from being taken advantage of and because the illegal immigrants, once legalized, are alleged to make a substantial contribution to the U.S. economy.

The Heritage Foundation has published a groundbreaking study knocking down the idea that legalizing 11 million-plus illegal aliens is going to be good for the U.S. economy.

However, the Gang of Eight continues to make the entirely specious claim that their bill isn’t really “amnesty” because the pathway to citizenship involves paying a fine, and going through a waiting period and a pro forma background check.

Cruz’s amendment calls their bluff on that one and says that whatever else Congress may do to “legalize” illegal aliens, they can never profit from their illegal behavior to become U.S. citizens if they have willfully been in the United States in unlawful status.

And that’s really the core rule of law argument that conservatives have been making against amnesty and the Gang of Eight bill.

Senator Rubio and the Gang of Eight can make all the humanitarian and cheap labor arguments that they want, but granting amnesty to illegal aliens is the same as granting amnesty to those who steal because they claim they have no money – it rewards crime and eventually will destroy the rule of law.

Ted Cruz has four other important amendments to the Gang of Eight bill: MDM13528, DAV13378, MDM13526, and MDM13527. We will examine those in the coming days, but time is getting short to stop the Gang of Eight amnesty bill. We urge you to call your Congressman and Senators (the Capitol Switchboard is 202-224-3121) and urge them to support Ted Cruz’s amendment DAV13373 also known as “Cruz 3.”

Call Sen. Marco Rubio via the U.S. Capitol switchboard at 1-866-220-0044 and tell him to withdraw his support for the Gang of 8 immigration amnesty bill.
