Fired for Being Christian – Join Us In Demanding A&E Bring Back Phil Robertson

Phil Robertson
The A&E network’s “Duck Dynasty” is the number one rated entertainment show on cable TV.

To those who may not be familiar with the program it is a “reality show” in which the “stars” are the extended Phil Robertson family of West Monroe, Louisiana, makers of the famous “Duck Commander” duck calls. The program follows the Robertson family through their various hunting and business ventures, adventures and misadventures.

It is funny family entertainment and it is also one of the few – perhaps the only current – program on entertainment TV where the “stars” regularly pray together as a family and invoke Christian values in their everyday lives.

The program has made the Robertson family media sensations and brought their company, the family and their values a great deal of media attention – including an interview with Barbara Walters which patriarch Phil Robertson skipped to go duck hunting and an interview the GQ magazine in which he witnessed for Christ by offering this response to a question about what he finds sinful:

"Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there," he said. "Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men."

Phil Robertson then paraphrased Corinthians saying, "Don't be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers -- they won't inherit the kingdom of God. Don't deceive yourself. It's not right."

It is worth noting that Robertson’s remarks weren’t merely his personal opinion or based on ten good ideas from some pop culture self-help guru, they are what the Bible teaches about human behavior, sex and sin.

However, the response from radical homosexual activists and same sex “marriage” advocates was quick, harsh and predictable in its demands that Robertson be removed from the show about the company he founded and the family he leads according to Christian values.

And the A&E network’s response was equally as quick and predictable in its firing of Phil Robertson for witnessing what the Bible teaches.

Robertson was quick to try to calm the waters, but not backing down from his embrace of Biblical teachings on marriage, by releasing a statement saying, "I myself am a product of the '60s; I centered my life around sex, drugs and rock and roll until I hit rock bottom and accepted Jesus as my Savior. My mission today is to go forth and tell people about why I follow Christ and also what the Bible teaches, and part of that teaching is that women and men are meant to be together. However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other."

As Gary Bauer once observed, “The gay-rights movement is instinctively totalitarian. It seeks nothing less than the total and complete acceptance of gay marriage and the repudiation of marriage as it has existed through all human history and in the traditions of every major world religion. Until that happens, their immediate goal is to try to marginalize anyone who expresses a dissenting view in public.”

A week or so ago we updated our reporting on the campaign against Jack Phillips, the Christian baker-owner of Masterpiece Cake Shop in Lakewood, Colorado, who refused to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple and was later ordered to use his talent and creative energy in the service of homosexuals who wanted him to bake cakes to honor their supposed “marriages” by Administrative law judge Robert N. Spence.

There is a vast difference between a society that upholds Christian values in its public policy, one that is neutral or ignores breaches of traditional mores and one that embraces the forced acceptance of same-sex “marriage” demanded by radical homosexual activists.

Those who are inclined to take a live and let live attitude toward the same-sex marriage debate must understand that Phil Robertson is only the latest victim of a totalitarian movement in which any dissent, including that based upon Biblical teachings, is driven from the public discourse regarding homosexuality and same-sex marriage.

Whether you are a “Duck Dynasty” fan or not, please sign our petition and join us in demanding that Phil Robertson be reinstated, and that A&E stop equating Christianity and traditional Biblical teachings with hatred.

Editor's note: CHQ editor George Rasley bought his first Duck Commander duck call in 1986 and has been a fan of Phil Robertson and Duck Commander long before A&E made them pop culture icons.

Christianity and Hatred

Many Christian pundits and regular Fox News pundit types have attempted to straddle the fence when it comes to the "language" that Phil used to allegedly link bestiality with homosexual behavior. Operative word behavior. As a factual matter sodomy by definitions is linked to "unnatural sexual acts between males "or" unnatural sexual contact between animals and human beings."
As a person who ascribes to the natural law definitions and biblical historical dependence contained in the constitutional basis for the Republic Phil was exactly correct in the sodomy linkage between homosexual sexual behavior and the homosexual community.
Sodomy as a biological abnormality is defined properly in Webster's and the Bible. It is neither new or created by Phil Robertson. It is the truth.

Petition for Phil Robertson

I believe this petition should clearly state that we do not want Phil's Christian witness censored. Giving him his 'job' back is only half of the issue. They will probably do that. However, Allowing him his free speech rights, is the other half and I believe they are not likely to do that. Please amend and I will sign.
