Successful VA-10 Candidate Forum: But One Candidate MIA

VA-10 Congressional Forum Candidiates and ost Chris Plante

The Virginia Congressional District 10 candidate forum hosted by CHQ and a large group of respected national and local conservative organizations was a roaring success: there was a full house at Patrick Henry College and over 2,100 viewed the forum online. (List of forum co-hosts at the end of this article)

Candidates Stephen Hollingshead, Howie Lind, Bob Marshall, Mark Savitt, Rob Wasinger all participated, however, the purported frontrunner (and establishment GOP favorite), Virginia Delegate Barbara Comstock, did not participate, citing family obligations.

Bob Marshall, Mark Savitt, Rob Wasinger, Stephen Hollingshead and Howie Lind all presented their vision of what priorities Virginia’s next Representative in Congress for District 10 should pursue – and they uniformly backed a conservative agenda.

Most importantly, they each expressed opposition to the failed leadership of the current House Republican leaders, including Speaker John Boehner, Majority Leader Eric Cantor and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy.

The most compelling and perhaps the most important exchange of the afternoon, was when the candidates outlined their vision of how to solve America’s illegal immigration problem.

Virginia Delegate Bob Marshall stated completing the wall along the U.S. southern border should be a priority. "They have not finished that wall. They've done everything except do the work." Marshall promised that if elected he would put an amendment on one of the budgets that said, "You can build a wall to engineering standards to keep illegal immigrants out of the United States. I would also put a budget amendment on telling Barack Obama, if you don't enforce the law we're cutting money for your executive office," according to Breitbart’s Kerry Picket.

Howie Lind focused his response on reforming the visa system according to Picket "Forty percent of illegals are running around with expired visas. We don't have a tracking system for visas and we should," said Lind, adding, "Speaker John Boehner and Eric Cantor and others are trying to rally around this amnesty bill with Pelosi Democrats."

"The first thing we need to do is top illegal immigration. There are plenty of our laws that are not being enforced another example of the president ignoring the fact that he doesn't get to make the law. It's an act of security not just an immigration issue. We need to close the border," said Hollingshead.

Each candidate at the town hall explained why he thought Boehner should no longer be speaker, a topic that drew applause from the crowd, and which other House member could do Boehner's job in leadership Savitt said, "John Boehner needs to go...he has been in there a lot longer than he needs to already."

He added, "He let down not only his party but his country. The longer he's there, the worse it's going to be for all of us, so that should be the first order of business when the new congress convenes."  Savitt, said, suggesting Rep. Trey Gowdy (R - SC) as potential speaker material according to Breitbart’s Picket.

We’d love to know where Barbara Comstock stands on the issues of illegal immigration and the re-election of the current House Republican leadership team, but unfortunately she has steadfastly declined many opportunities to discuss these important issues on the same stage as her opponents.

Barbara Comstock was at her daughter's wedding shower!

This article states, "Virginia state Senator Barbara Comstock, did not participate, citing family obligations."

However, Comstock is a state Delegate--not a state Senator.

She was unable to attend the Virginia 10th Congressional District Candidate Forum on Sunday, April 13, BECAUSE she was at her daughter's wedding shower!

What mother would miss her daughter's wedding shower???

It is my understanding that Comstock fully explained this to the sponsors of the Forum in advance of the event.

The article also states, "We’d love to know where Barbara Comstock stands on the issues of illegal immigration and the re-election of the current House Republican leadership team, but unfortunately she has steadfastly declined many opportunities to discuss these important issues on the same stage as her opponents."

It just is NOT true!

Comstock participated in BOTH the Candidate Debate and Forum in Winchester, Virginia on March 15 AND the Candidate Debate and Forum in Sterling, Virginia on April 9.

A straw poll by the Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William Young Republican chapters showed that 57% believed Comstock won the debate in Sterling, while two other candidates tied for 2nd place at 16%.
