CHQ Endorsed Rep. Curt Clawson To Give Tea Party Response To Obama’s SOTU

Curt Clawson

Tonight, Rep. Curt Clawson (FL-19) will deliver the Tea Party response to President Obama’s State of the Union address.  The address will live stream through the Tea Party Express website www.TeaPartyExpress.org and in the past both CNN and FOX have broadcast the stream.

Clawson was one of two dozen House members to oppose the re-election of Speaker John Boehner opting instead to vote for Senator Rand Paul on the first ballot.

Clawson was first elected in 2014 to fill the remainder of the term left vacant by former Rep. Trey Radel, R-Fort Myers, who resigned earlier that year. Clawson defeated three other Republicans in a bitter and costly special primary that saw the DC Republican establishment anoint Florida state Senator Lizbeth Benacquisto for the seat.

Clawson won the special election by 40 percentage points, by billing himself as “the outsider for Congress” and garnering strong conservative grassroots support and a gut-level opposition to Washington insiders picking winners and losers in a local primary.

He handily won re-election in November.

Based on Obama’s pre-remarks this will mark the seventh time Obama has called for tax increases in a State of the Union address. Obama is also expected to talk about his illegal immigration plan and new environmental regulations also panned as unconstitutional.

The top item on Obama’s agenda will likely be the rollout of a “free” community college plan that will be paid for by taxing 527 college savings plans, meaning that those who save for their children’s college will be double taxed to subsidize those who don’t or won’t.

Clawson is the perfect Tea Party counterpoint to Obama and Washington’s GOP establishment on jobs and the economy; Clawson also holds a masters of business administration degree from Harvard University and is a vocal advocate of tax reform — including cutting the cumbersome and often discouraging corporate tax rate.

Clawson said he has already begun giving his speech some thought, and said the message will focus on “an outsider’s view of what is going on here [in Washington.]”

“Congressman Curt Clawson represents the face of this new, conservative vision for America’s economic renewal. Clawson never envisioned serving his country in Congress earlier in his life, but after he retired Clawson decided to take his private sector, solutions-based ideas to change the debate on Capitol Hill.  Prior to joining Congress in 2014, Congressman Clawson was a successful business leader that took over a multinational company that was $2 billion in debt. Through his vision and leadership, he turned the company around and saved close to 600 American jobs,” said Tea Party Express executive director Taylor Budowich.

Clawson is set to speak immediately after Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) gives the Republican Party’s response. Although both FOX and CNN have covered the Tea Party response to the State of the Union, the best way to be sure to see the Tea Party response is via the Tea Party Express website www.TeaPartyExpress.org
