The Ted Cruz Speech On Radical Islam The MSM Will Never Show You

Cruz Speaking At Defeat Jihad Summit

On Wednesday, February 11, 2015 speaking at the “Defeat Jihad Summit” hosted by our friend Frank Gaffney and the Center for Security Policy, Senator Ted Cruz delivered one of the most important speeches of the week, indeed of the first month of 2015, and the establishment media didn’t even bother to cover it.

Forget President Obama’s State of the Union speech – a largely substance-free wish list of bills that will never pass interspersed with petty threats – Cruz delivered a tour de force analysis of the failure of Obama’s response to the threat of radical Islam and in the process a detailed critique of many of the underlying assumptions of Obama’s national security and foreign policy.

“This is an important gathering,” stressed Senator Cruz. “This is a comprehensive, serious strategy in addressing the threat of radical Islamism,” the Senator said in complementing the Center for Security Policy’s Secure Freedom Strategy.

“If you’re not aware of what you’re fighting, you’re not going to defeat it,” said Cruz.

What brings together jihadists groups, such as Al Qaeda, ISIS, and Boko Haram, is the ideology of “radical Islam,” explained Cruz.

“What do you intend to do and how do you intend to do it?” Cruz then  rhetorically asked Obama. “With regard to ISIS, we have not seen a seriousness of purpose. We have seen, instead, photo op foreign policy — a bomb here, a missile there.”

“The solution to ISIS is to hunt down and kill the terrorist leaders,” Cruz said later. “But when you have an administration that will not utter the words ‘radical Islamic terrorist,’ you have an administration that is unwilling to effectively design and implement a strategy to defeat radical Islamic terrorists.”

Cruz later added that “immediately” arming the Kurds and stripping U.S. citizenship from people who join the fight with the Islamic State should also be part of the US strategy to defeat radical Islam.

Cruz also took direct aim at presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton referring to the “Obama-Kerry-Clinton” foreign policy, and sharply rebutted of the president’s remarks during last week’s National Prayer Breakfast, including one in which Mr. Obama invoked the Crusades and the Inquisition to remind people that terrible acts have been carried out in the name of Christ.

“Now the last I checked, the Crusades began in the 11th century,” Mr. Cruz said. “I don’t think it’s too much to ask for the president to stay in the current millennium.”

Sen. Cruz also commended Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi for asking Muslim leaders last month to help fight extremist elements within the religion.

“Imagine what a different prayer breakfast it would have been if the president had stood up and commended President el-Sisi for having the courage to speak the truth,” Cruz said.

Cruz said that the nation also needs to recognize the threat posed by Iran acquiring nuclear weapons, which is the “gravest threat” facing the United States. “We are repeating the mistakes of the 1990s with regard to North Korea… but here the dangers are qualitatively greater,” he said. What makes Iran more dangerous is that their country, which is led by Ayatollah Khamenei and the mullahs, are not rational actors, explained Cruz.

“If Iran acquires a nuclear weapon, the odds are unacceptably high that they will use that weapon,” he  added. Even If Iran doesn’t use their nuclear weapon, “the inevitable result will be nuclear proliferation throughout the Middle East,” he concluded.

But Sen. Cruz reserved what we consider to be his most important critique of Obama’s policies and the thinking underlying them for Obama’s remarks about the radical Islamist attack on French magazine Charlie Hebdo for publishing caricatures of the prophet Mohammad.

Cruz noted in his remarks, Obama said, “just because you have the right to say something doesn’t mean the rest of us shouldn’t question those who would insult others in the name of free speech.”

“If in fact we defend the legal right of a person to insult another’s religion, we’re equally obligated to use our free speech to condemn such insults and stand shoulder to shoulder with religious communities, particularly religious minorities who are targets of such attacks,” Obama apparently believes.

Sen. Cruz said he found that a “rather stunning assault on free speech.”

“What the president was saying is that Charlie was wrong to put a cartoon of the prophet Mohammad on their magazine,” Cruz said. “And implicitly what that’s saying is the terrorists who murdered those journalists had a legitimate grievance.

“That is wrong, that is pernicious,” said Cruz.

Cruz is right, and more to the point, Cruz’s clear statement that Obama is wrong to give legitimacy to the idea that radical Muslims have a legitimate grievance against the West goes straight to the heart of Obama’s worldview and why he is incapable of effectively fighting the war against radical Islam – it is because deep down inside Obama agrees with them and shares their grievances against America and the West.
