Right and Left Coming Together to Defeat Corrupt Crony Ex-Im Bank

Club for Growth Florida Democratic Primary ad

The establishment media has largely ignored the story, but there is an important trend developing in national politics and policy debates; the emergence of more than occasional alliances of conservative and liberal populists working together to defeat Capitol Hill establishment cronyism, corporate welfare and insider raids on the taxpayers’ wallets.

Of course as we see it, good government - limited constitutional government - shouldn’t be a Right-Left thing; it’s in the plain language of the Constitution. But to Washington’s inside elite “good government” all comes down to who gets paid, and Appropriators of both parties, and their lobbyist pals, are only too happy to set party politics aside when dividing-up the spoils that Big Government extorts from producers.

The latest Right-Left populist policy alliance to emerge is between conservative and liberal opponents of the Export-Import Bank reauthorization, which has put such far-Left liberals as Senator Elizabeth Warren and bomb throwing Florida Congressman Alan Grayson on the same side as sober pro-growth conservative Representative Jeb Hensarling of Texas, Chairman of the House Committee on Financial Services.

And it has also brought some conservative organizations, such as The Club for Growth, that traditionally have had little interest in Democratic Party primary contests into the Democrats’ Florida Senate Primary Election.

Yesterday afternoon our friends at The Club for Growth announced the release of a TV ad urging Florida Democrats to support Representative Alan Grayson’s (FL-9) opposition to the Export-Import Bank, over Representative Patrick Murphy’s (FL-18) support for the bank and its corporate welfare.

The ad will begin airing today statewide in Florida on MSNBC, and in other in Florida outlets, and it represents the third phase in The Club for Growth’s overall $1 million campaign, including digital advertising, opposing the reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank.

The Club is also currently airing ads in the congressional districts of Representatives Bill Shuster (PA-9) and David McKinley (WV-1), on broadcast and cable TV in Johnstown, PA, Clarksburg, WV and Wheeling, WV.

“Congressional Democrats, like Patrick Murphy, are in virtual lockstep in their support for the big corporate special interests that gain taxpayer-provided financing from the Export-Import Bank,” said Club for Growth President David McIntosh. “Despite the hundreds of fraud claims against Ex-Im, and the 31 open fraud investigations involving the bank, Murphy still wants an expansion of Ex-Im. But, Alan Grayson has stood firm in the face of intense Democrat pressure for extending Ex-Im’s life. Even Hillary Clinton is pleading for Ex-Im’s reauthorization. That’s why The Club for Growth is urging Florida Democrats to get involved in the fight against cronyism and corruption by calling on their Democrat representatives to join Alan Grayson in opposing Ex-Im.”

TWO FLORIDA DEMOCRATS IN CONGRESS WITH VERY DIFFERENT VIEWS.

PATRICK MURPHY SUPPORTS THE EX-IM BANK, AND WANTS TO FUNNEL BILLIONS MORE TO CORPORATE FAT CATS.

CONGRESS WILL SOON VOTE.

TELL YOUR DEMOCRATIC MEMBERS OF CONGRESS TO SIDE WITH GRAYSON, NOT MURPHY, AND STOP THE EXPORT-IMPORT BANK’S OUTRAGEOUS  CORPORATE GIVEAWAYS.

Please join the leaders of over 50 conservative organizations by signing the conservative letter to Congress demanding that your Representative and Senators let the Export - Import Bank expire on June 30, 2015.
