Presidential Horse Race 2016: Did Huma Abedin’s Islamic radical connections set off the FBI?

While wading through the gobs of material reporting on Hillary Clinton’s reaction to the reopened FBI investigation into her emails, I came across a blog post at RedState speculating that Clinton aide Huma Abedin was being thrown under the proverbial bus as a scapegoat to try and save what’s left of the Democrat nominee’s campaign.

After noting that Abedin is no longer traveling with the Clinton campaign entourage, in a post titled “Why is Huma Working from Brooklyn?,” RedStater Dan Spencer wrote, “When I first heard FBI Director James Comey’s bombshell on Friday I thought that Comey was reopening the investigation because he couldn’t take Abedin Wienerall the criticism he was getting for not recommending Hillary be criminally charged. My theory was Comey reopened the investigation so they could pin something on an appropriate sacrificial lamb. And Huma Mahmood Abedin, a.k.a. Mrs. Anthony Weiner, is the perfect scapegoat…

“Not only is Abedin the perfect scapegoat from Hillary’s perspective, it would mollify those in Hillary’s vast right wing conspiracy or the alt-right who believe the ‘conspiracy theory’ that Abedin is a radical Muslim because she ‘has three family members – her late father, her mother and her brother – connected to Muslim Brotherhood operatives and/or organizations.’”

Seeing as Spencer writes for RedState I’m guessing he probably is #NeverTrump, but his observations on Crooked Hillary and Huma seem astute except for the part about it being a ‘conspiracy theory’ that Abedin is closely related to Islamic terror groups.

Like Spencer, I also believe the Clintons are offering up Huma as a sacrifice to the gods of political expediency, but there’s likely more to the whole affair than just a simple decision to cut down a close friend and “Body Woman” because she’s no longer useful to the ultimate Clinton ambitions.

And Huma’s being kept away from the campaign trail because her presence at events would remind everyone of the scandal. What if the press asked her a question?

There’s absolutely no way we could know for sure at this point, but do you think maybe the FBI found evidence on the now infamous Wiener laptop that revealed Abedin was channeling top secret information to her family’s connections in the Muslim Brotherhood? Since it was a private laptop presumably in the Wieners’ home, what Huma does in her free time would be beyond the watchful eyes of the federal authorities. Maybe it was Wiener’s computer and Huma only used it after hours. Maybe it was Wiener tapping into Huma’s business. Who knows – it could be anything.

You still need a search warrant to watch what people do in their own homes, right?

Most people who have been paying attention know about the potential problems involved with Abedin’s residing so close to the seat of power yet still being “related” to well-known dangerous people.

Kenneth R. Timmerman is familiar with Abedin’s sketchy history and wrote at The Hill back in August, “The evidence, in my opinion, is overwhelming: Huma Abedin is nothing short of a Muslim Brotherhood princess, born into an illustrious family of Brotherhood leaders…

“Simply put, Huma Abedin worked for thirteen years as part of an enterprise whose explicit goal was to conquer the West in the name of Islam. No wonder the Clinton campaign wants to sweep this issue under the rug.

“Mrs. Clinton has sometimes referred to Huma Abedin as her ‘second daughter.’ Whether it was because of their close relationship or for some other reason, Mrs. Clinton has done much to further the Muslim Brotherhood agenda while Secretary of State, and can be counted on doing more as president.”

There’s little doubt the Obama administration was good for the Muslim Brotherhood during the early days of the “Arab Spring,” helping insurgent groups gain control in several countries and even overthrowing dictators like Muammar Gaddafi in Libya. Crooked Hillary Clinton was operating the levers of power at the State Department at the time, accompanied on her worldwide missions by none other than Huma Abedin.

It doesn’t take a huge leap of logic to think that maybe, just maybe Abedin was supplying her pals in the Muslim Brotherhood with confidential information that she was privy to as Clinton’s right-hand woman. There is no doubt Abedin came into direct contact with thousands of pieces of classified information, which she could easily transmit to practically anyone she wanted to through the use of her own personal laptop.

Donald Trump said last year that Anthony Wiener very well could have come into contact with classified information since he was married to Huma. It looks as though Trump was right. Now we’ll find out if the “conspiracy theory” that Abedin gave information away to dangerous Islamic radicals is similarly true.

It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if it were. With human nature being what it is, you just can’t trust people whose motivations are unknown. Time will tell whether Huma Abedin is one of those people.

Crooked Hillary’s Watergate-like scandal could end up being her own personal Waterloo

Perhaps it’s because we likely won’t know the results of the FBI’s ongoing investigation into Crooked Hillary’s dealings with her private email server in time for the election that many people are drawing comparisons between the current situation and that of 1972 when Richard Nixon was busy deflecting questions and inquiries on Watergate.

John Fund writes in National Review, “The parallels between Nixon and Hillary continue. Nixon set up an elaborate system to capture the flow of daily communication through tape recordings. Hillary’s obsession with control led her to use a private server. Nixon was suspicious of the bureaucracy and tightly limited information to just a few zealous aides. Hillary bypassed the State Department’s IT specialists and also relied on a few loyalists…

“Hillary certainly shares Richard Nixon’s penchant for secrecy and dishonesty and an obsession with enemies, and the WikiLeaks revelations show that even her closest aides are appalled at her bad instincts and her habit of digging in her heels, blaming others, and refusing to course-correct until it’s essentially forced upon her. If Hillary is elected, will we have to go through another ‘long national nightmare,’ the memorable phrase Nixon’s successor, Gerald Ford, used to describe the consequences of Nixon’s cover-up?”

I’m not sure that we might already be living the “long national nightmare” right now. As if it wasn’t bad enough that America has suffered through eight years of tyranny and lies at the hands of Obama, should Hillary win it’ll only get worse. At least in 1972 there was still some semblance of sanity in the two-party system even if it was controlled by the big government establishment in both cases.

In contrast, we’re now having to choose between thinly veiled socialism and the uncertain posturing of a first-time politician who talks a good game but doesn’t have a political track record to back up his promises.

All things considered, Trump is the easy choice between the two. But doubts will remain about his willingness to do what’s necessary within the bounds of the Constitution to restore American greatness until we see some results from him. And in order to achieve those results, he has to win first.

Which brings me back to Watergate. The parallels between then and now don’t end with the simple comparison of Hillary’s and Nixon’s similarly paranoid personalities. They both could end up being brought down by turncoats within their own hemispheres.

Who knows, maybe Huma Abedin is Hillary’s own version of Deep Throat, only this time instead of an FBI informant snitching to journalists to break the story it’s a close aide reporting to the FBI. Or maybe it’s Anthony Wiener who is Hillary’s “Deep Throat”…but that’s almost too sick to contemplate.

We just don’t know what information led to James Comey’s reopening of the investigation. We were told it was a laptop, but there also could be someone-in-the-know who made a deal with the FBI to provide information in exchange for immunity or some other kind of favor.

Lastly on this subject, there’s another possible parallel between Watergate and this election. Should Hillary win on Election Day it’s not only conceivable but likely that Obama would pardon her before she’s sworn in next January. Attorney General Loretta Lynch could come up with some sort of trumped-up formal charge in the meantime whereby Obama could then act to cast the controversy aside in favor of “healing the nation.”

The Democrats don’t care in the slightest that their presidential candidate and potential new president is a scofflaw and they certainly don’t pay any credence to the half of America that is incensed at the mere mention of Hillary’s ethics violations. Obama risks nothing of his legacy in intervening for a final time to save his one-time rival and current best pal in Hillary Clinton.

For Obama knows Clinton is the only chance he has to preserve his legislative legacy. Donald Trump means what he says when he promises to undo Obama’s damage. Simply put, Obama will do anything and everything to make sure Hillary’s clear of legal and criminal obstructions by the time she takes office.

For their part, the Democrats don’t seem to be enjoying the parallels between Hillary’s email case and Watergate. On Sunday, Clinton-stooge-turned-Sunday-talk show-host George Stephanopoulos lit into Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway for defending her boss’s assertion that this scandal is worse than Nixon’s.

It will be months before anyone knows the truth, if we ever actually do find out what really happened. For now, Democrats seem panicked over the possibility that Hillary’s own version of Watergate may turn out to be her own personal Waterloo, too.

Polls were moving in Trump’s favor even before news of the FBI investigation came out

While it may take a long time to learn what federal fact-finding personnel and the Justice Department ultimately plan to do with Crooked Hillary’s law-breaking scandals (don’t forget the Clinton Foundation, which is also under scrutiny), polls show the FBI’s reopening of the investigation may already be affecting the race.

Although it’s probably true about two-thirds of Americans say the new information will not have any bearing on who they intend to vote for, I’m betting for the one-third that admit it makes them less likely to vote for Clinton there will be a mass exodus away from the candidate who’s now under the FBI microscope.

As of early Tuesday morning the Real Clear Politics average had Clinton’s margin at 3.1 points, a steep drop from her most recent peak of leading by seven just two weeks ago. The typically Trump-friendly LA Times/USC poll even had Trump up by four.

Needless to say, some of the surveys do not yet reflect any shift that could be taking place after last Friday’s FBI news broke. I’m guessing Clinton’s polling lead will all but disappear by next Tuesday. This is a close one, folks.

Though Trump is yet to completely overtake Hillary in the national polls, there is one area where he’s now out in front of the Democrat nominee. Gabby Morrongiello of the Washington Examiner reports, “Hillary Clinton's unfavorability rating has reached a new high just eight days before the presidential election, and is now higher that Donald Trump's unfavorable rating, according to a new ABC News/Washington Post poll released Monday.

“Sixty percent of voters now hold a negative opinion of the Democratic presidential hopeful, putting her in a slightly worse position than Trump, who has a 58 percent rating. The poll was taken Oct. 26-29 and included two nights of results that came after FBI Director James Comey announced the reopening of its investigation into Clinton's handling of classified material.”

Clinton’s negative dip isn’t all that dramatic and it’s not like Trump has suddenly become a widely popular guy overnight, but this is the first time I can remember that more people thought negatively of Hillary than Donald.

The results also bolster my notion that the FBI news will do more to dampen Hillary’s turnout than it will to necessarily increase Trump’s, but the net results will equal a benefit for the Republicans. Hopefully it will also be reflected up and down the ballot.

Meanwhile, another potential good sign for the Republicans comes from a survey showing millennial voters are cooling slightly towards Hillary. Again, Morrongiello reports in the Washington Examiner, “Support for Hillary Clinton among millennial voters has shrunk by 6 percentage points in just two weeks, though the Democratic presidential hopeful maintains a significant edge over Donald Trump, according to a USA Today/Rock the Vote poll released Sunday.

“Sixty-two percent of likely voters ages 18 to 34 plan to cast their ballot for Clinton in next month's election, down from 68 percent in early October. In the same period, Trump gained a single percentage point. The poll was taken before Friday's announcement by FBI Director James Comey that the agency had reopened its previously closed case into Clinton's handling of classified material.”

I guess it’s no longer cool to be outwardly proud of supporting someone who should be behind bars. Even some in the younger generation realize it.

It’s becoming clear Hillary will not be getting the same kind of boost from younger voters that Barack Obama received four and eight years ago, but the question is whether the margins will be large enough to make up for her obvious weaknesses with other demographic groups.

The reopened FBI investigation would only serve to increase the doubts people might have about Hillary, which were considerable even before anything was announced in the news. Perhaps most importantly, the news focus has almost entirely shifted away from Trump a week out from the election. Political news sites still contain a healthy number of anti-Trump stories but they lack the “wow, look at what he said today” quality of several weeks ago.

Both candidates will continue holding rallies and repeating their talking points to the press. Trump still could stand to reinforce his message by buying time on TV to make his own personal pitch to voters, as Richard Viguerie suggested last week. Such a move would give people a positive contrast that is more motivating than just a desire to vote against Clinton.

If Trump truly wants to shore up the votes of the college educated Republican-leaning suburbanites that he’ll need to win the election, a direct pitch is needed to close the deal. Let’s hope he’s listening.

At long last, a Democrat jumps off the Hillary bandwagon

Finally today, much has been written over the course of the race about Republicans publicly rejecting Donald Trump as the nominee for the GOP but there’s been a remarkable resistance on behalf of Democrats to do the same for Crooked Hillary. She can literally say and do anything and the Democrats go in lockstep right along with whatever she comes up with.

Well, maybe until now at least.

Rebecca Savransky of The Hill reports, “Democratic pollster and political analyst Doug Schoen is no longer supporting Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton but says he will continue to assess the situation.

“’I am deeply concerned that we will have a constitutional crisis if she's elected,’ Schoen said during an interview Sunday on Fox News.

“’I want to learn more this week, see what we see, but as of today, I am not a supporter of the secretary of State for the nation's highest office.’”

Quite a few conservatives have called for Hillary to step down in the wake of the latest FBI investigation, but there haven’t been any Democrats, to my knowledge, doing the same. There’s just a different standard when it comes to Democrats who are much more ends-oriented people.

As long as they receive their federal goodies and patronage appointments, they don’t care about how they get them.

But Schoen brings up another important point. Even if this FBI investigation ends like the first one – or if Obama pardons her – there will be other scandals to come if Crooked Hillary is elected. A constitutional crisis over her election would just be the first.

I hope there are more Democrats with Schoen’s wisdom and foresight. But I won’t hold my breath.
