It’s often said that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. In today’s world of wacked-out leftist mania over the presidency of Donald Trump, however, I’d argue liberals are not only well versed in history – at least the recent variety – they’re intentionally trying to replicate it.
It seems like every day brings new shrieks of outrage over the actions of the Trump administration. Environmentalists are distraught over his moves to increase energy production; the homosexual lobby is terrified that Supreme Court Justice-to-be Neil Gorsuch will tip the balance against the judge created “right” to same-sex marriage; and the racist cartel of Democrat interest groups are hysterical over…well, just about everything.
This “Trump derangement syndrome” is merely the latest iteration of a sickness that’s plagued the country in the past three decades. Those on both the left and right have seen such evil in the person of the sitting president that they’ve practically screamed themselves into fainting sprees reminiscent of teenage girls at Beatle concerts.
Only with Trump the disorder seems to be just a little worse.
Jonathan S. Tobin of National Review writes, “Anyone with a Facebook account already knows that many of our liberal friends are convinced that Trump is, at best, setting the U.S. up for a rerun of the last days of Weimar Germany. At worst, they see him as not merely a billionaire with a thin skin but as the mastermind of a scheme aimed at replacing democracy with a dictatorship that will repress women and minorities.
“When ‘liked,’ shared, and echoed in comments on social media, that sort of thinking is a form of mass group therapy for those who still can’t believe Trump won the election. But it’s also what helped to motivate the counter-inaugural marches and the rest of the reaction to the new administration that increasingly calls itself a ‘resistance’ rather than mere political opposition.”
Tobin argues “presidential derangement syndrome” originated during Bill Clinton’s administration in the 90’s, but who would dispute that it really began during Ronald Reagan’s time in the White House? Perhaps beginning with the confirmation hearings for Judge Robert Bork in 1987, Democrats and liberals became detached from reality by throwing the proverbial kitchen sink full of verbal trash at conservatives to try and prevent their issue sacred cows (like abortion) from being scrubbed from public existence.
Led by Democrat Senators Ted Kennedy and Joe Biden, these people would not let process or reason distract them from seeking the outcomes they desired. The moment they tasted blood they were ready to do it all over again.
And it worked, too, to some extent. The Supreme Court seat that would have gone to Bork instead went to Justice Anthony Kennedy who has generally leaned right but also joined liberals in preserving many of their causes over the years.
Liberals study history and see a pattern and a formula for success and they use it over and over again to achieve their aims. The borderline insane Democrat stall tactics in the Senate for the past month are a good example of their sad crusade to turn public opinion against profoundly decent people like Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Education Secretary Betsy DeVos.
Some of their own are even admitting to what’s really going on.
Peter Hasson of the Daily Caller reports, “Former Democratic senator and 2016 presidential candidate Jim Webb said there is a campaign among D.C. insiders and in the media to ‘personally discredit’ President Trump and the people around him.
“’Well, you know, there is a campaign going on on the Hill, in the media, in the academia to personally discredit not only Donald Trump but the people who are around him,’ Webb said in an appearance on NBC’s ‘Meet The Press’ on Sunday.
“’And, you know, the end result of this really is to try and slow down the process, by the way…”
You can be forgiven if you didn’t remember Webb running for president last year…he actually bowed out of the Democrat race in October, 2015, after the first party primary debate. Webb dared to talk about the goal of sealing the southern border during that forum and was summarily drummed out of the party along with anyone else who refused to toe the leftist issue line.
How else did Bernie Sanders hold up against the pre-ordained winner in Hillary Clinton? He’s as liberal as they come.
Now Webb’s speaking the truth about Democrats and their stall tactics. However, his warnings will go unheeded by a party membership that again re-elected Nancy Pelosi to lead House Democrats after years of steering the party into an unelectable ditch.
But Webb is right on about the establishment’s mission to bring down Trump and his advisors -- Kellyanne Conway and Steve Bannon in particular. The latter has been smeared in the vilest of ways by so-called “mainstream” media outlets such as the New York Times.
John Fund of National Review writes, “…It’s not surprising to me that the pugnacious Bannon is loathed by so many Washington media types, nor does it shock me that his refusal to provide news tidbits for reporters isn’t appreciated.
“But some standards in Beltway career destruction should be observed. Of course, the media shouldn’t ‘shut up’ when it comes to the Trump administration. But, yes, some listening and some introspection in evaluating the double standard by which they covered the Obama administration would be healthy and would help the public that consumes their reports.”
In his article Fund relayed a personal observation that the establishment media is openly trying to “get” Bannon. The looney left needs someone to hate at all times. In the Reagan White House it was Edwin Meese (among others). For George H.W. Bush it was Dan Quayle. For George W. Bush it was Karl Rove.
And for Trump it’s Conway and Bannon, though Conway’s accessibility to the media seems to buy her a smidgen more goodwill from journalists and pundits (at least until this past weekend’s Saturday Night Live skit – shocking).
Not so for Bannon. As long as he continues to churn out sound conservative/populist advice to the president and avoid the press at the same time, he’ll remain public enemy number one in their eyes.
It just goes to show, liberals know history very well…and they’re trying desperately to repeat it.
Liberals go to unprecedented lengths to discover the mindset of the Trump team
Perhaps the most hilarious – and scary – aspect of the collective liberal establishment freak-out over Donald Trump concerns their attempts to project ominous motives onto the president and his team.
For example, the media talks often about Steve Bannon’s purported mission to steer the country towards fascism, so they do things like quote him out of context in a speech from three years ago where Bannon associated a well-known political philosopher with Benito Mussolini (see the John Fund story above). Of course journalists then make the rest of the connections, basically asserting that Bannon approves of fascism.
And now the liberal establishment, through their ongoing legal struggle over the administration’s completely legitimate travel and immigration restrictions executive order, are trying to get in the Trump team’s head as well.
Byron York of the Washington Examiner reports, “When the case eventually goes to a trial court, Washington State plans extensive discovery into the president's state of mind when the order was issued, as well as the state of mind of key presidential advisers. Washington State lawyers told the 9th Circuit they intend to find out what was ‘said in private’ about the executive order, which suggests state lawyers will seek to depose and obtain documents from the president and his inner circle…”
York concludes, “[L]egal cases can take odd turns and end up in places no one expected. And there is no doubt that Trump's antagonists, who have taken to styling themselves The Resistance, view lawfare as one of their most effective strategies to weaken the president. Even if Trump fixes his executive order's problems, there could still be trouble ahead.”
In his article York quotes several legal experts who highlight the extraordinary difficulty Trump’s opponents will face in obtaining privileged documents – and information on private conversations – but the point is, it looks like they’re going to try anyway.
In their paranoid delusions liberals are convinced that Trump and his advisors are anti-Muslim and what they’re unable to prove through the discovery process, they’ll likely invent. Liberals appear to believe that if they gather enough dirt on Trump they’ll get what they really want – to be rid of him.
They’re not even trying to hide any longer their ultimate aim: impeachment.
Opinion columnist Kathleen Parker wrote in the Washington Post, “My ‘good’ prediction is based on the Law of the Pendulum. Enough Americans, including most independent voters, will be so ready to shed Donald Trump and his little shop of horrors that the 2018 midterm elections are all but certain to be a landslide — no, make that a mudslide — sweep of the House and Senate. If Republicans took both houses in a groundswell of the people’s rejection of Obamacare, Democrats will take them back in a tsunami of protest.
“Once ensconced, it would take a Democratic majority approximately 30 seconds to begin impeachment proceedings selecting from an accumulating pile of lies, overreach and just plain sloppiness. That is, assuming Trump hasn’t already been shown the exit.”
Keep in mind Parker was at one time considered “conservative” and Republican. She made her real views known in unfairly criticizing Sarah Palin in 2008, exposing her true allegiance to the Washington establishment and status quo against anyone who didn’t “look” or “talk” like them.
Aside from the huge logical leaps of faith Parker takes in forecasting Democrat takeovers of both chambers of Congress in 2018 and then comparing leftist anarchist freak protestors to the law-abiding Constitution-revering Tea Party movement – what would happen if Trump were removed by impeachment? Would liberals suddenly rush to accept Mike Pence and his views when he assumed the office as president?
Honestly, who pays to read this rubbish, or pays Parker to write it? Thank heavens for internet links – we all get 10 free stories a month from the Washington Post!
If liberals are thinking they’ll get into Trump’s head, let them try…but conservatives already realize what’s going on in the minds of the left. And it ain’t pretty, folks.
Outside the establishment media bubble, Trump is in good with the People
As demonstrated by their behavior of late, the left is hard at work convincing themselves that their extreme protests and paid demonstrators are actually dampening President Donald Trump’s popularity, but there’s no evidence any of it is persuading Trump supporters they chose wrongly last November.
In fact, there are very clear signs that Trump and his people are in good shape with the grassroots. And, Americans are willing to go to work for him, too.
Ryan Lovelace of the Washington Examiner reports, “The conservative Tea Party Patriots group is organizing its network of activists to mobilize this week in support of Judge Neil Gorsuch's Supreme Court nomination.
“Tea Party Patriots President Jenny Beth Martin emailed activists with plans that include emails, tweets, phone calls, holding rallies and visiting the offices of elected officials, among other actions.”
Martin and the Tea Party Patriots are coordinating events to encourage grassroots conservatives to show their elected representatives that there is support out there for Gorsuch, and by extension, Trump. In suggesting people organize house parties with friends, Martin wrote, “Your story and your opinion is important to many of the people in your life, and you'll never how many people you can persuade if you don't try!”
Too many times conservatives contribute the money and do the hard work to get good people elected and then let them wither on the vine when they are actually in office. It used to be that a “silent majority” could mostly count on representatives to do the right thing, but these days with all the media noise and false garbage being recycled on social media, we can’t afford to be still.
Thankfully conservatives are motivated and support for causes grows organically. But they also vote with their wallets when the occasion calls for it.
Red Alert Politics reports at the Washington Examiner, “In less than 24 hours after setting social media on fire by wearing a pro-Trump ‘Make America Great Again’ dress, singer Joy Villa reached her all-time high in sales.
“On Amazon alone, Villa's 2014 album ‘I Make the Static’ increased by more than 18,106 percent, reaching No. 1 in their album sales charts. Just the day before her record was the 543,202 most-bought album on the website.”
One has to wonder whether Villa is just super smart and realized there was a vast untapped market of people who are so fed up with the leftist crapola seeping from the unchecked orifices of the entertainment industry that they would buy just about anything to show support for Trump.
But give Villa credit for speaking out regardless. Just like the now famous “Chick-fil-A” day in August of 2012 led to record sales for the chain (and new devoted customers), conservative entertainers who are willing to stand up for what’s right will be rewarded in kind.
Conservatives cannot afford to be passive in the “war” of public opinion against the left. It’s going to be a daily fight to get our point-of-view across -- and people like Villa are helping to do it.
