Conservatives Oppose McConnell’s Obamacare Bill

Principled limited government constitutional conservative Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX), Ron Johnson (R-WI), Mike Lee (R-UT), and Rand Paul (R-KY) issued the following statement Thursday responding to the release of the Better Care Reconciliation Act of 2017:

“Currently, for a variety of reasons, we are not ready to vote for this bill, but we are open to negotiation and obtaining more information before it is brought to the floor. There are provisions in this draft that represent an BandAidimprovement to our current healthcare system but it does not appear this draft as written will accomplish the most important promise that we made to Americans: to repeal Obamacare and lower their healthcare costs.”

Other conservatives, such as our friends at FreedomWorks also quickly came out in opposition to the bill.

FreedomWorks said in a statement that the bill doesn't live up to promises by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., of a full repeal of the ACA.

"Unfortunately, the Senate bill is an amendment to ObamaCare, not a repeal of it," said FreedomWorks President Adam Brandon.

Jenny Beth Martin, Co-Founder of Tea Party Patriots also quickly sent an email to Tea Partiers asking for support for Senator Ted Cruz's position saying, "The American people want this disaster gone and that’s what we’re demanding."

Our conservative friends at the Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF) also released a summary of the U.S. Senate leadership’s Better Care Reconciliation Act. The summary, by TPPF Senior Healthcare Analyst Chris Jacobs, provides the best detailed breakdown of the draft legislation we’ve seen so far.

You can read their analysis through this link.

TPPF’s Center for Tenth Amendment Action Director Chip Roy said, "Today, the Senate released its version of the American Health Care Act. Simply put, the bill doubles down on the fundamentally flawed architecture of Obamacare and if implemented, will neither increase the actual care available to the people nor drive down the cost of care or insurance.  It maintains Obamacare’s subsidy regime, retains almost the entirety of the regulatory architecture driving up people’s premiums and deductibles, continues the previous Administration’s unconstitutional bailouts to insurers, and maintains the Medicaid expansion for five more years before slowly attempting to reform the program."

TPPF's Center for Tenth Amendment Action Senior Federal Policy Analyst Drew White also weighed in saying, "While many of the Medicaid reforms are welcome, these reforms occur too many years down the line and are far from guaranteed to be implemented. If this bill passes, Obamacare will effectively be permanently enshrined as law. This is not what Congress has promised the American people and will only pave the way for a government-run, single payer system. The Senate should, simply put, start over."

Our friend Daniel Horowitz of Conservative Review termed Mitch McConnell’s health care bill “essentially a more liberal version of the House bill, which, in itself, was a more insolvent version of Obamacare that Republicans will now own.”

Horowitz also noted that the only difference between Obamacare and the establishment Republican health care bills is that Democrats want to fund subsidized health care with tax increases, while establishment Republicans want to fund it with deficit spending.

As with the Paul Ryan health care bill the real problem is that the Mitch McConnell bill does next to nothing to repeal the real cost drivers of health care – the Obamacare regulations and subsidies.

Mitch McConnell’s Better Care Reconciliation Act of 2017 is a Band-Aid when an amputation is needed. This is not what Congress has promised the American people and, as our friends at the Texas Public Policy Foundation put it so well, will only pave the way for a government-run, single payer system that Republicans will own. The Senate should, simply put, start over.

We urge conservatives to call their Senators TODAY to tell them they want a bill with the three "C's" of meaningful healthcare reform front and center in mind when repealing Obamacare. The three C's are: The Constitution, the cost of Obamacare, and competition.

Tea Party Patriots have a great set of talking points that you can use to help you with your call. The Capitol Switchboard is (1-866-220-0044) we urge you to call your Senators, tell them the bill as described above is a Band-Aid when an amputation is needed, and it is not the full repeal of Obamacare that Mitch McConnell and the Senate Republican leadership promised.

Tea Party Patriots Talking Points For Obamacare Repeal Calls:

Our nation simply cannot afford Obamacare. The healthcare law adds trillions to our nation’s debt.

Obamacare’s mandates and regulations have driven up health insurance costs, and they must all be repealed.

True healthcare reform will uphold the Constitution, protect individual liberty, and not put government between doctors and patients. In replacing Obamacare, Congress must first look to the Constitution for guidance.

Obamacare gives bureaucrats and other unelected officials in Washington, DC too much power. The law created more than 150 new agencies, boards, and commissions made up of unelected people who are not accountable to us!

Obamacare’s “individual mandate” is an attack on individual liberty. The individual mandate requires all citizens to buy government-approved health insurance or pay a fine to the IRS.

The Senate’s reform bill must rein in – not expand! – the federal bureaucracy.

The bill released on Thursday is not what Congress has promised the American people and will only pave the way for a government-run, single payer system. The Senate should, simply put, start over.

Conservatives Reject Better Care Reconcialiation Act 2017

Conservatives should draft a new health care bill in Congress that will lower heathcare cost for all Americans introduce another health care bill unlike Mitchcare. Which is a sham by the establishment Republicans to introduce another Obamacare bill to give the liberal left handouts and their corrupt schemes that will increase the deficit. It violates the Constitution and tramples on the rights of all Americans which is wrong.
