The Paul Ryan Border Disaster Forces Trump Veto

Paul Ryan
Friday, President Trump vetoed the Democrat-formulated resolution disapproving his declaration of a national emergency on our southern border.

The President’s veto message focused on the facts of the current emergency situation at the border:

As demonstrated by recent statistics published by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and explained in testimony given by the Secretary of Homeland Security on March 6, 2019, before the House Committee on Homeland Security, our porous southern border continues to be a magnet for lawless migration and criminals and has created a border security and humanitarian crisis that endangers every American.  Last month alone, CBP apprehended more than 76,000 aliens improperly attempting to enter the United States along the southern border -- the largest monthly total in the last 5 years.  In fiscal year 2018, CBP seized more than 820,000 pounds of drugs at our southern border, including 24,000 pounds of cocaine, 64,000 pounds of methamphetamine, 5,000 pounds of heroin, and 1,800 pounds of fentanyl.  In fiscal years 2017 and 2018, immigration officers nationwide made 266,000 arrests of aliens previously charged with or convicted of crimes.  These crimes included approximately 100,000 assaults, 30,000 sex crimes, and 4,000 killings.  In other words, aliens coming across our border have injured or killed thousands of people, while drugs flowing through the border have killed hundreds of thousands of Americans.

Keeping the focus of his veto message on the facts of the situation on the border was probably the wisest course for the President, but let’s be brutally honest; the reason President Trump was put in this situation was because of the abject failure, or perhaps outright treachery of former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan.

Whenever any talk of enforcing existing laws at our southern border, let alone updating or clarifying them, Ryan would come forth with something along the lines of “that’s not us.” Meaning, we guess, that Capitol Hill Republicans were not in favor of the rule of law or protecting American national sovereignty as their constitutional oath required.

And when it came time to fund the construction of the promised border wall Ryan first stabbed Trump in the back by allowing Democrats to dictate the terms of last year’s border security budget, and then postponed passage of this year’s border security funding until after the 2018 midterm election thereby guaranteeing Democrats could stymie the funding of the wall.

To his great credit, President Trump was fully prepared to go it alone by exercising the extensive powers granted to him by Article II of the Constitution, but imagine how much easier this would be if Paul Ryan had actually done his job and fulfilled his promise to Trump and the American people?

As it has been for the past two years, President Trump is on the ramparts fighting the new Far Left Democrats virtually alone as House Republican “leaders” have been not just AWOL but invisible as Trump fends-off the Democrat attacks on the border emergency declaration and other policy fronts.

We think Senator Lindsey Graham’s comments to Fox News’s Maria Bartiromo ought to serve as a model for House Republican leaders who still do not seem to grasp what the border wall votes are all about:

To my Republican friends: it’s clear to me they’re not recognizing President Trump won. They’re not having the same attitude about barriers under Trump as they did Obama. You’re basically marginalizing the Trump presidency by not standing by the president, because the Democrats are not playing fair with President Trump.

Senator Graham went on to tell Ms. Bartiromo that President Trump did not “have any choice but to declare a national emergency” and that the president “had all the legal authority he needs to do it.”

We urge CHQ readers and friends to call your Senators and Representatives TODAY. The toll-free Capitol Switchboard is (1-866-220-0044) tell them there is a national emergency on our southern border and they should vote to sustain President Trump’s veto of the Democrats’ resolution disapproving his Declaration of National Emergency on our southern border. Tell them you support President Trump’s call for a wall on our southern border and the President was right to use his Article II constitutional authority to declare a national emergency and have the Pentagon build the wall and other needed security enhancements on our southern border.

As a constituent of MR. Ryan I and exceptionally disappointed in his tenure as Speaker of the House. His failures have cost the country dearly and his failure to support the President is exceptionally disgusting.
My opinion of Mr. Ryan has gone from great support to Abject and complete failure as a representative of my district, his capitulations to the Democratic Party and failures to live up to his word to the President have placed him among the least respected representatives.

Paul Ryan?

I recognized many years ago what Paul Ryan was all about. He was mentored by John "the caver" Boehner. And like Boehner, Ryan devolved into a RINO. Just look at his voting records over the past 12 years where he voted like a democrat whenever the vote was close. Ryan was exactly what the democrat party wanted him to be; a traitor to all America conservatives. His decision not to run in 2018 was not benevolent. We will all find out just what a coward Ryan has been in weeks and months to come.
