Karl Rove Criticizes Romney, Stop the Presses!

Former George W. Bush advisor Karl Rove is one of the chief spokesmen for the Washington Republican establishment. This election cycle, Rove’s hobbyhorse has been to promote the “inevitability” of moderate former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney’s nomination as the Republican candidate for President. Now, all of a sudden, it turns out Rove shares some of the same complaints about Romney that turn-off Tea Partiers and grassroots movement conservatives.

Writing in The Wall Street Journal Rove chastised Romney for of all things, running a content free campaign -- or perhaps to more precisely quote Rove -- running a "campaign tilted too heavily toward biography and not nearly enough toward ideas."

Stop the presses! Karl Rove agrees with conservatives and criticizes Mitt Romney!

While Rove understands that Rick Santorum won Iowa and Newt Gingrich won South Carolina because they were selling conservative voters on a set of big ideas about where to take America, notice Rove did not chide Romney for a lack of "conservative ideas."

The Republican establishment wants no part of the conservative ideas that propelled Santorum and Gingrich to their primary victories. What they want is an idea-free President who will continue business-as-usual in Washington if he wins. And let’s face it, with Romney’s record of flip-flops and the creation of the Romneycare government health care mandate, he is not a very credible salesman for conservative ideas -- particularly the conservative social agenda and constitutional conservative ideas on personal freedom.

Still, anytime Karl Rove agrees (just a little bit) with Tea Partiers and grassroots movement conservatives, we should take heart. Rove’s op-ed is at least a small admission that conservative complaints about establishment Republicans (and Mitt Romney in particular) running content-free campaigns are being heard in the Skull and Bones bunker where Karl Rove works his magic.

Rove

I listen to Hannity every once in a while and unfortunately hear Rove way too often. I also hear how great G.W. was. Yeah, I voted for all the Bushes and every timeI got stabed in the back! Rove and Bush are responsible for making the country ripe to elect this treasonists president we have now! And now  we are suppose to expect Romney to be the nomine, so says the treasonists media. No way!

What I don't understand is why is Ron Paul not on top since he is the only one that promotes the Constitution?

Maybe there are a lot of people like me that feel like the country is so far off course that we could never get back to a Constitutional country. It's so sad that we have to settle for such a lame candidat like a Romney. Maybe Rick Santorum can beat him out. Rick is at least a better conservitive than Romney.

I feel like B.O. will get re-elected no matter what we do.....That is why most people here in Idaho are stockpiling food, guns and ammunition. I certainly hope it does not come to that because I could not afford to stockpile anything due to spending all my discreationary income on fuel!

Rove

I agree that Romney is not the one we need today to win this election.    If he goes up against  Obama with his current debate skills and knowledge, we may as well scratch this election.!!

If Romney wins Obama will get my vote

Rick or Newt are the only right persons running for what we need in DC.

Agreed Rick and Newt a great

Agreed Rick and Newt a great team!  Newt is a tough talker and the only one listing what he will do from day 1.  Romney never says anything other than "i'm a conservative" ,"i'm a conservative" , "i'm a conservative" and so on.  It's about time Rove woke up from his 'establishment sleep'.

Rove

For heaven's sake....George Soros says that there not much difference between Obama and Romney.  That alone is enough for us to stampede to Newt !!

No Romney for me

I can't be true to myself and vote for Romney.  He's a whore and has no substance or character and don't see him upholding the Constitution.  The GOP has lost a member.  No longer will I allow them to force feed me candidates.  No hope.

Duh!

The day after the Florida primary I met with the board members of the local Republican Club and I was shocked that everyone was saying that there was no way they would help Romney get elected.  These were the same folks who were on my case because I said I doubted that I could support the nominee if Ron Paul didn't win.  I think that the party is begining to realize that people are not going to support a candidate just because the media and the party tell them they must.  While it looks like it bodes well for Obama, I think it will cripple the establishments control of the political process and that will be good for America in the long run.

Great article,

Great article, Richard!!

Hope you're taking it easy.

Karl Rove working his magic

OYEZ!

no brainer

I was for Romney by now I know why I have changed my mind.  He is a rubber stamp of Obama.  He didn't create any jobs, he bought businesses and had his management either shut them down if they couldn't be saved or his managers had success.  Romney never started a business.

How can he run against Obama when Obama only has to tell how Obama care was a rubber stamp of Romney care.  This is a no brainer and will ensure Obama will have 4 more years.

My Goodness did Karl Rover

My Goodness did Karl Rover just notice??  It is obvious to us 'lower intelligent class' that Romney HAS no content.  Offering his looks, stage presence, establishment backing and what ever.  At least with Newt he told us exactly what he would do clearly and concisely so that we all can understand where we would be going.  With Romney I don't know where the hell he's taking us, other than satisfying the RINOs of Washington.  It is disgusting what they have done to Mitt.  Bryan York had an excellent column in this Sunday's local paper regarding the 'destruction' and character assassination (sic) of Newt.  I may just be one of those who will write in Newt's name, rather than vote for Romney because Romney and Obama are pretty much the same.

Romney Stinks for America

Mitt Romney  has outsourced American jobs, fired too many people while just keeping an eye on his own bottom line, and even tortured his own dog! Forget about Romney and vote for the only smart choice for America...Newt Gingrich in 2012.
