Tea Partiers Have Tennessee Establishment GOP Reps on the Ropes

Tea Partiers and principled small government constitutional conservatives in Tennessee who have been waging under-funded and divided fights to unseat establishment GOP Representatives Diane Black (TN-6) and Chuck Fleischmann (TN-3) should take heart.

Rumor has it that the National Republican Congressional Campaign Committee is so concerned about their prospects they are pulling out all the stops to save the two embattled debt ceiling raising incumbents.

Emails have been making the rounds of conservative list serves asking for volunteers for an “all hands effort” on behalf of the two Tea Party targets.

The good news is that this must mean polls showing that the two squishy incumbents are in trouble are real.

The bad news is that means the full weight of the Washington GOP establishment is about to come in against their small government constitutional conservative opponents.

Scottie MayfieldConservativeHQ.com has already endorsed Scottie Mayfield against Fleischmann in the Tennessee Congressional District 3 Republican Primary to be held August 2.

We think businessman Scottie Mayfield is the real boat rocking conservative in Tennessee’s 3rd District Republican primary -- and the best hope for replacing squishy Republican Chuck Fleischmann with a reform-minded conservative. The other candidate in the race is Weston Wamp, the son of former Congressman Zack Wamp, whose dynastic ambitions and strong scent of DC insider connections leave us cold.

Mayfield is active in his church, the winner of the Sam Walton Business Leader Award and numerous other community leadership awards. Fleischmann is supported by the usual cast of characters from the Washington Republican establishment. Erick Erickson of Red State reported similar information on the constitutional conservative candidate in the Tennessee District 6 race when he posted, “A little birdie tells me that the Republicans in Washington see Diane Black in trouble and Diane Black’s own internal polling shows the same thing up in TN-06.

This is terrific, terrific news. She’s a terrible congress critter.

Her primary opponent is Lou Ann Zelenik and would be a far, far better member of Congress.

As I’ve said before, if we cannot hold our own side accountable now, we never will. Here is a race, like the Chuck Fleischman race in Tennessee, where we can pick off a terrible Republican, replace them with a better Republican, and not lose the seat.

If you want to hold the GOP accountable and send a strong signal that the status quo is unacceptable, you might be interested in helping Lou Ann Zelenik.”
