Who’s afraid of default? Not our conservative and Tea Party readers. Almost three-fourths of you want to stand firm against any rise in the debt ceiling, even if the result is default.
We asked you: “What is the right ‘end game’ on the debt limit?”
And we added: “Republicans control only the House of Representatives. Democrats control the Senate and the White House. It is unlikely, therefore, that the ‘Cut, Cap, Balance’ legislation will be signed into law. What should be the end game for conservatives?”
Almost three-fourths (72%) answered: “Stand firm, allow default to occur, and blame President Obama and the Democrats for whatever happens.”
14% said: “Conservative Republicans should refuse to vote on the issue, let the Democrats raise the debt limit, and make ‘Cut, Cap, Balance’ the central theme of the 2012 campaign.”
Another 12% answered: “Bargain for the biggest cuts in spending possible under these circumstances, then vote to raise the debt limit and make ‘Cut, Cap, Balance’ the central issue of the 2012 campaign.”
And 2% said: “I do not have an opinion at this time.”
this is just another liberals
this is just another liberals crisis they don't want it to go to waste
Raising the Deficit Ceiling
In most cases I would say stand firm, but we are at the centerpiece of a world economy folks. We can't just stop paying our debts. Good Lord, if I'm six hours late with my credit card payment I'm nailed with a $39 "late fee". So, who do we NOT pay in terms of debt? Yes, I know, there is some taxable income that is coming in but we all know it's not enough and we all know it! It's time for a truly bi-partisan effort to stop this nonsense. Two years without a budget, three years with appropriation bills not passed by 1 October (Federal law) and you get the picture. The Washington scene is broken and we, the taxpayers will pay for it, one way or another. I'm retired on Social Security and Medicare -- we are told that they "might be cut" -- but who really knows? Why is it so hard for Congress to learn to live within its income limits? Why is the Republican party so set in cement on any minor tax changes (say a 1% increase in corporate taxes for the big guys) or stopping the dozens of subsidies that go out for agriculture, car makers, fishermen, other interests, etc. etc. ? Frankly, I'm changing to "no party affiliation" and I'll vote for the person regardless of party affiliation. I'm so sick and tired ot all this rigamarole in Washington that it makes me want to heave!! When Congress accepts cuts in their benefits, pays into social security and their own health benefit plan, reduces the regular pay hikes etc., then I might begin to think that we might have a chance. But, all I see on the horizon is China calling in their markers!! Great, huh?
