EPA, do us all a favor and don't pick favorites

Editors, Washington Examiner

That doesn't mean Trump should rig the rules to help coal, as early hints suggest it may. Any new climate rules should be as neutral as possible. EPA administrator Scott Pruitt put it well: "Regulatory power should not be used by any regulatory body to pick winners and losers." Trump and Pruitt, we hope, understand the difference between minimizing harm and helping industries. A wise policy would meet the statutory requirements and so defang inevitable environmentalist lawsuits, while refusing to favor coal, gas, nuclear, or renewables.

Scott Pruitt, in fight for EPA life — literally

Cheryl K. Chumley, Washington Times

Pruitt’s EPA — President Donald Trump’s EPA — only comes as a natural result of the many, very many, overly burdensome, anti-business and costly radical environmental provisions pushed by the previous administration. After eight years of nonstop land use crackdowns, the change is welcome. But radical environmentalists aren’t happy with the shift. So they’re taking a page book from the antifa-type thugs and going right after Pruitt himself with the physical threats.

Obama Still Creating a Toxic Environment for Trump’s Policies at EPA

Ed Fuelner, CNS News

If President Trump wants to make any headway at the EPA and other federal agencies, he needs to do more than appoint good people to run them. He needs to make sure that the people behind the curtain aren’t working to undermine him.

President Ryan Takes Over

The spending bill Paul Ryan is about to ram through Congress shows that despite Donald Trump’s historic election win it is Speaker Paul Ryan who is really running the show in Washington, and President Ryan has no intention of fulfilling candidate Donald Trump’s campaign promises.

Kill the lawless, baseless Clean Power Plan

Editors, Washington Examiner

Democrats, environmentalists, and big businesses that profited from the overweening regulations will attack Trump and EPA administrator Scott Pruitt for rolling back Obama's rules. But undoing the clean power plan should be seen as a victory for the economy, for sound science, and for the rule of law.

Trump Pushes For Massive Budget, Staff Cuts At EPA

Michael Bastasch, Daily Caller

President Donald Trump will ask Congress to cut the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) budget 24 percent, or nearly $2 billion, according to sources familiar with the budget plans. The White House sent draft budget plans to agency heads Monday, detailing billions of dollars in cuts to a wide range of federal programs. Cuts to EPA and other agencies will fund a $54 billion increase in defense spending.

Reform of the junk science agency causes freakout at the EPA

Julie Kelly, National Review

Trump officials and Congress are ready to make major changes in the EPA. A leaked memo written by Trump’s EPA transition team details how the new administration wants to tackle shoddy science at the agency. The memo asserts that the EPA should not be funding scientific research, and it must make any data publicly available for independent scientists to review. It also said that the agency must eliminate conflicts of interest and bias from the science advisory process.

Trump announces selection of EPA antagonist to lead agency

Timothy Cama, The Hill

Pruitt has sued President Obama’s EPA for nearly every major regulation, and has led the fight among Republican attorneys general against rules like the Clean Power Plan and the Clean Water Rule, two of Trump’s top targets for repeal. Trump’s pick immediately came under fire from Democrats and environmentalists, who warned that Pruitt’s antagonism toward fighting climate change and Obama’s green agenda is a huge risk to the planet.

Nix last-minute rulemaking

Editors, Washington Examiner

Such regulatory abuses are the logical outcome of the inordinate importance placed these days on the temporary occupant of the Oval Office. Long-term solutions are needed that look beyond Obama and beyond even his successor to restore congressional authority and clip the wings of the imperial presidency.

Obama’s Fair Words and Foul Deeds on the Transition

No matter what he says about a smooth transition, Obama is still President and that means his Far-Left agenda will continue unabated until Donald Trump takes the oath of office.

Michael Bastasch, Daily Caller

“Why the pain for no gain?” Sen. Jim Inhofe asked in a rebuttal to the State of the Union speech. ”As The WSJ put it when reporting on just one of [Obama]’s many climate regulations, this is a wealth redistribution scheme being imposed by the president through the EPA.”

Guess Who Says Obama’s Clean Power Plan Is Unconstitutional?

Liberal constitutional law scholar, and early Obama mentor, Laurence H. Tribe warns that Obama has overstepped the bounds of his constitutional authority and says frustration with congressional inaction cannot justify throwing the Constitution overboard to rescue this lawless EPA proposal.

Another Obama Choice To Crush American Workers

As with so many of the job-destroying actions the Obama administration has taken, the real victims will be America’s hard-pressed workers and their families because if the Clean Power Plan is implemented America will have fewer jobs, but global emissions won’t decrease.

Water Rule Could Put Property Rights of Every American at Mercy of EPA

Ron Arnold, Daily Signal

A single missing word could turn a water law into a government land grab so horrendous even a U.S. Supreme Court justice warned it would “put the property rights of every American entirely at the mercy of EPA employees.”

Obama’s Lobbyists, Another Broken Promise

Washington Times Editors

Once upon a time, lobbyists were told they would have no place in the Obama admin. Transparency would put an end to business as usual in DC. Now, lobbyists call the shots in this admin and a ‘billionaires club’ writes this administration’s environmental policies.
