Even if the seat is open, Lee would not be able to waltz into a leadership job. Several Republicans said he’d be an underdog in any leadership election because of his role in the 2013 government shutdown and his association with conservative groups that annoy GOP senators.
One segment of the elite political class – Congress – is demanding that the taxpayers bailout another segment of the elite political class – Puerto Rican public employees. And Speaker Ryan wants your Congressman to to betray you, and indeed the very idea of a constitutional representative government, by asking rank-and-file members to remain silent, refrain from asking for a recorded vote, or leave the room when the time comes for a vote on the bailout bill.
The failure of Trump’s last minute rampage through Ohio where he spent Election Day attacking Kasich on Twitter even as his campaign had one of its most effective ads pulled because the disclaimer was incorrect showed some of the limits of Trump as a candidate and his campaign as a vehicle to defeat Hillary Clinton.
The House Republican Conference meets today to nominate a candidate for Speaker. We urge you to call your Representative (the House Switchboard is 1-866-220-0044) to tell him or her that we conservatives are watching how they vote and that we demand they vote for a conservative, such as Daniel Webster, for Speaker.
"Leadership has often said they are going to fight tooth and nail but then they lose their teeth, they lose their nails," Rep. Dave Brat, the freshman Republican from Virginia who defeated House Majority Leader Eric Cantor in the 2014 GOP primary, wrote in a Facebook post Friday.
Ask Donald Trump supporters why they support him and the answer typically is reduced to “He fights!” It’s become both a rallying cry for Trump supporters and a source of derision for those who oppose him. But the fact is, Republican leaders don’t fight.
The unborn don’t get a furlough, like a bureaucrat during a government shutdown, instead they have a permanent “solution” violently forced upon them as they are dissected alive, parceled out and sold for profit. Can anyone in Congress coherently argue that saving government bureaucrats from temporary layoffs should come before rescuing live babies? Please watch this video and forward it to your contacts and tell them to ask their Representative and Senators, "Babies or bureaucrats?" . WARNING: it graphically makes the point in 60 seconds.
Do Your Job and Stop Obama's Policies or GO HOME!
To: Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Paul Ryan, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, and All Members of the House Republican Conference and Senate Republican Conference
Repubs.’ trust in GOP leadership is dwindling, according to a poll conducted by EMC Research. The national survey of more than 600 GOP voters found a majority wary of embracing incumbent Speaker Boehner & incoming Senate Maj. Leader McConnell.
Louie Gohmert declared that GOP leaders in Congress “need to get on board” with defunding Obama’s exec. amnesty. "We promised people not amnesty, but defunding the amnesty, and Republican leaders need to get on board” he said.
Cruz defended his efforts to delay the vote on the CRomnibus. “Leadership was angry. They didn't want to fight this fight now. Mike Lee & I thought it was important to get a vote now, to get the D's on record, & we hoped every Repub. on record against exec. amnesty."
It sure seems this entire rules process led by GOP Rep. Pete Sessions is rigged to allow only the amendments the leadership wants.
House Majority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise is coming under fire in conservative circles for supporting the effort by Speaker John Boehner, Maj. Leader Kevin McCarthy & Approps. Comm. chair Rep. Hal Rogers to reach a spending deal that would fund Obama’s exec. amnesty.
As the GOP takes control of the Senate, estab. R's like Thad Cochran, Orrin Hatch, Chuck Grassley & John McCain will pick up the chairman’s gavel, setting up a classic conflict between governing & campaigning with the party’s 2016-aspiring young guns like Ted Cruz, Rand Paul and Marco Rubio.
R's are noted for losing their reformist edge. The combined influence of well-connected lobbyists, well-financed pressure groups, etc. tends to dampen enthusiasm for being tagged a loose cannon by standing on principle.
If personnel is policy, then there’s little doubt Sen. Ted Cruz’s choice to make Paul Teller his Chief of Staff was designed with stirring the pot in mind. Teller has been challenging the establishment and pushing conservative policy for years and seems to be a good fit for Cruz.
According to Gallup, 28% of Americans view Boehner favorably, and 50% view him unfavorably. But Boehner doesn't get much of a boost from his own party. The poll found that 40% of Republicans have an unfavorable view of Boehner, while 46% view him favorably.
Who you walk with says a lot about who you are. To repair the damage Eric Cantor has done to the conservative coalition Republicans must maintain to win elections, House Republicans should be looking for a Majority Leader who walks with conservatives and who is engaged with and has the respect of principled limited government constitutional conservatives on and off the Hill. UPDATE: The media now reports that Cantor will resign as leader.
