filibuster

As the Filibuster Goes, So Goes the GOP

Patrick J. Buchanan, CNS News

In a 2017 public letter, Democrats endorsed the retention of the filibuster, both on principle and because of the unique character of the Senate: "We are steadfastly committed to ensuring that this great American institution continues to serve as the world's greatest deliberative body." If the filibuster is thrown out, writes the Journal, "The door to radicalism is getting busted wide open, and Americans of both parties may not like what comes out the other side." If the filibuster goes, and the Dem left runs wild in the next two years, will that republic survive the disfiguring surgery?

The New Old Obama

Victor Davis Hanson, American Greatness

If Obama is truly concerned about the deaths of young African Americans he could return to Chicago in its hour of need, as people of color are currently being gunned down in the streets—even at funerals far less secure and guarded than those at which Obama speaks. He could revisit his Chicago home, use his moral bona fides to restart his community activist career, and seek to quell the violence and save the lives of the innocent and unprotected—all concerns far more vital to the nation than ending the filibuster. He would receive bipartisan and overwhelming public support for such hard work.

Silence and Betrayals of GOP Senate Leaders Killing America

The silence of Republican leaders has led Democratic leaders to think they’re winning the battle over the future of America. And why shouldn’t the Democrats think they can win? For the past three years the GOP’s congressional leaders hid whenever any part of Donald Trump’s conservative – populist MAGA agenda came up, avoiding any showdown with the Democrats over everything from the Wall to the revolution going on in the streets of Democrat-controlled cities.

How Senator Cory Gardner Can Revive His Flagging Campaign

Here’s our advice to Senator Gardner: Fire your Mitch McConnell endorsed consultants and get out on the campaign trail with state Rep. Patrick Neville. Go to every town in Colorado with a radio station and every city with a TV station and call a rally to “Back the Blue,” and make it clear that you will tolerate no violence from ANTIFA or BLM thugs. Tell the law-abiding citizens and voters of Colorado you stand for law and order against Hickenlooper and the Far Left New Democrats that are behind his campaign.

How To Lose Your Majority - Message To Mitch McConnell And Senate GOP

We have a simple explanation of the problem and a simple answer that will guarantee a Republican majority in the Senate: Your problem is you have spent that past three years betraying the GOP base that elected Donald Trump President, so stop betraying conservatives, get off your ass and fight for the MAGA agenda and you will win. Keep doing what you are doing, and you will lose.

Far Left ‘Abortion Barbie’ Running Against Conservative Congressman Chip Roy

Far Left former Texas state Senator Wendy Davis, whose 11th hour antics on the floor of the Texas Senate temporarily stopped a 2013 bill to tighten restrictions on abortion looks like she is planning to run against principled limited government constitutional conservative Rep. Chip Roy in Texas congressional district 21.

Trump Stuffs Democrats Harris And Feinstein On Ninth Circuit Judges

President Trump’s decision to nominate a slate of solidly conservative judges to the Ninth Circuit vacancies is another demonstration of Trump’s acumen in recognizing the nexus between politics, policy and the judiciary and the Senate is about to change its rules to end the Democrat obstruction that has stalled many of Trump's best conservative nominees.

If Republicans Really Control The Senate…

If Republicans really control the Senate, then why are they making confirming Republican President Donald Trump’s department heads and subcabinet posts so difficult? A case in point is the nomination of Rep. Jim Bridenstine to serve as administrator of NASA, whose nomination has languished since September 2017.

Did We Just Say Paul Ryan Is Right?

Ryan is right to criticize the Senate for government by train wreck, the question is what is his Senate counterpart Mitch McConnell going to do about it? One idea is to embrace President Trump’s suggestion that the Senate do away with the 60-vote rule on spending bills, thus stripping the Democrats of their power to bring the country to a halt whenever they want to pander to their Leftwing base.

McConnell: We Have The Votes To Change Filibuster On SCOTUS Nominees

Kerry Pickett, Daily Caller

“It appears as if cloture will not be invoked but we will find out Thursday, but either way we will be moving towards confirming Judge Gorsuch Friday,” McConnell said. McConnell assured that legislative filibusters would remain intact and not a “single member” wants to see the legislative filibuster go away.

Nuke Them, Mitch

Scott McKay, The American Spectator

McConnell doesn’t even need to use the nuclear option to destroy a filibuster of Gorsuch on the Supreme Court, though to do so is more than warranted by Schumer’s irresponsible statements. It might even be more entertaining were he to require, in order to sustain the filibuster, that the Democrats actively hold the Senate floor. He ought to tell Schumer to supply his people with lots of Red Bull, protein bars, and adult diapers, if they planned on filibustering Gorsuch — because they’d be up all night.

House Freedom Caucus surrenders while Rand Paul plans filibuster

Matthew Boyle, Breitbart

Ryan is tacitly allowing Boehner’s big-government package through—and most members of the House Freedom Caucus are letting him to do it. Rand Paul believes all the House Freedom Caucus members who have supported Ryan’s speakership should consider withdrawing their support if Ryan doesn’t join the Senator’s efforts to kill the bill.

McConnell Finds His Go-To Dems

Alexander Bolton, The Hill

Senate R's are reaching out to about 9 Dems they see as crucial swing votes in the new Congress. With his 54-seat majority, Senate Maj. Leader Mitch McConnell is 6 votes short of overcoming Dem. filibusters, making bipartisan support a necessity for getting most legislation to Obama’s desk.

Memo to Senate GOP Caucus: Don't Restore The Filibuster

Hugh Hewitt, TownHall

A serious, full statement on what Reid did and why the response has to roll out over 4 years serves both the institution, the base, and the goal of finely moving to take control of the narrative and establish a framework through which the actions of the next 2 years will be understood.

Senate GOP Zero In on How to Gut Obamacare

David M. Drucker, Washington Examiner

Senate R's will likely move to gut Obamacare after they assume the majority next year by using a parliamentary maneuver that would allow them to skirt an expected Democratic filibuster, GOP sources said.

Changing the Rules, Changing America: The Senate and Judicial Supremacy

Over the past 60 years, liberals have stealthily and intermittently begun confirming radical activists to the courts, consistently using Senate procedure to shut conservatives out of the federal nomination process while creating the illusion that they are filibustering. The result: liberal judges who legislate from the bench. Call your Senator now and urge him to oppose Obama's 9th Circuit Court nomination, Michelle Friedland.

Senate Budget Deal Vote No Slam Dunk

Manu Raju and Burgess Everett, Politico

Despite the resounding House approval of the budget bill, the Senate doesn’t seem to be a slam dunk. While Senate Dems are confident they can keep their 55-member caucus united, it remained unclear which 5 Repubs would cross the aisle to break an expected GOP filibuster on the measure next week.

A Short-Term Debt Ceiling Increase?

Ed Morrissey, Hot Air

While the Senate prepares to vote on a big raise in the debt ceiling, with Reid hoping to pressure Repubs to avoid a filibuster, Boehner has a new card he’s pulling out of his sleeve, too.

Nuclear Option Evaded? NLRB Noms Out

Burgess Everett, John Bresnahan and Manu Raju, Politico

Senators have tentatively agreed to retain the filibuster if two NLRB nominees are replaced and voted upon.

Reid Going Nuclear to Aid Obama?

Katherine Rosario, Heritage Action

When Harry Reid gets frustrated, he threatens to change the Senate’s rules to get his (and Obama's) way.
