Two Days to Save America: Stop Obama’s Gun Grab Defund Gun Control in the CR

Our friend Michael Hammond of Gun Owners of America reminds us that when Obama has tried gun control through executive action in the past with shotgun import bans, ammo bans, 50-state semi-auto registration, and de facto implementation of the UN Arms Trade Treaty, Congress has rapidly repudiated him by defunding his efforts. But whether or not Republican leaders are prepared to do this once again in the Continuing Resolution that must pass by December 11 remains an open question.  Please join us in demanding an end to this dangerous folly by signing our open letter to House and Senate Republican leaders.

If Only Abdelhamid Abaaoud Had Been on a “No Fly List”

Leon H. Wolf, RedState

Liberals realize that the executive branch has sole control over who is on the “No Fly List” and who isn’t, and they like the idea of a pain free way for Obama to deny the purchase of guns to whoever he wants. In the meantime, they like the idea of a snap-judgment wedge issue based on people’s fears that have been stoked by recent news.

The President is a Cancer on our Nation

Erick Erickson,

On his way to the Kennedy Center last night, President Obama deigned to lecture the American people again. He stood at a podium in the Oval Office looking down at us and, no doubt, hiding the teleprompter reflection in the windows we would have gotten if he had sat down. What he said was again divisive, again unhelpful, and again less than reassuring.

Gun Violence Erupts in a State of Gun Control

Debra J. Saunders, American Spectator

I certainly don’t think “gun safety” laws could stop terrorists. If Congress were to pass such a ban, then lawmakers would have to grandfather existing assault weapons. Manufacturers would find legal ways around Washington restrictions. The kind of Americans who want to take charge of their own defense would buy them. The public would not be safer. The new gun law would be about as effective as the war on drugs.

Liberalism’s Gun Problem

Ross Douthat, New York Times

Despite their occasional sympathies for Gallic socialism, I don’t think American liberals necessarily want to “get to France” in this illiberal sense. But to be persuasive, rather than just self-righteous, a case for gun control needs to explain why that isn’t where we would end up.

Clinton makes gun control a defining cause

Anne Karni, Politico

Clinton’s embrace of gun control is on the verge of becoming a defining issue in the campaign, with all the political benefits and detriments associated with confronting the National Rifle Association and 2nd Amendment activists across the country.

Dems hope to turn refugee debate into gun debate

Susan Ferrechio, Washington Examiner

Democrats are pressuring Republicans to pass legislation blocking gun and explosives purchases for anyone suspected of being a terrorist, and are threatening to attach that language on a bill imposing new conditions on the entry of Syrian refugees.

Virginia voters reject the gun grabbers as GOP retains Senate

Neil Stevens, RedState

In the 10th District, Republican Glen Sturtevant won 50-47 over Democrat Dan Gecker. Everytown was all-in for Gecker, and they dragged around the parents of a murder victim as props to support that effort. But they failed. Our civil liberties enshrined in the Bill of Rights prevailed, hindering the efforts of Bloomberg, McAuliffe, and the Democrats to attack our right to keep and bear arms.

Bloomberg and McAuliffe’s gun control pitch misfires in Virginia

Mike Flynn, Breitbart

Bloomberg and his SuperPAC, Everytown for Gun Safety, hoped to show that Democrats could win on the issue of gun control. Also, Gov. McAuliffe had made enacting new restrictions on gun ownership a centerpiece of his campaigning for Democrats around the state.

Obama considering executive gun control

Fox News

The Washington Post reported that the White House is considering executive action that would compel background checks for "individuals who buy from dealers who sell a significant number of guns each year." The Washington Post reported that the White House is considering executive action that would compel background checks for "individuals who buy from dealers who sell a significant number of gu

Obama blames guns for Oregon anti-Christian shootings

Erick Erickson, RedState

What is so outrageous is that this time the President decided to politicize the situation after we already knew that the shooter had demanded the victims declare their religion before gunning them down. But the President never mentioned that. He never mentioned religious tolerance.

Obama disgraces himself with rush to politicize Roseburg shooting

Thomas Lifson, American Thinker

Eager to distract the country from the collapse of his Syria policy and the triumph of Russia in replacing the US as the dominant force in the Middle East, he seized upon the deaths as means to advance his anti-gun agenda, with absolutely no knowledge of the guns used, or the means by which the shooter acquired them.

Enough with the Roanoke Shooting Coverage Already

Leon Wolf, RedState

The media’s treatment of this story has long since passed honest respect for the untimely passing of two young people and wandered into obvious sermonizing on the evils of guns. What’s happening now isn’t news coverage; it’s ghoulish capitalizing on a tragedy for ratings and politics.

Dis-Integrating America

Pat Buchanan, CNS News

Collisions between black suspects and criminals and white cops are going to increase, and some of these collisions are going to involve shootings. And such shootings trigger fixed, deep-seated beliefs about cops, criminals and injustice, they also cause an instantaneous taking of sides.

It’s Always The Gun’s Fault

How exactly would you go about screening out Vester Lee Flanagan II, the killer of Allison Parker and Adam Ward, from a legitimate gun purchaser?

We will not legislate away evil

Erick Erickson, RedState

After yesterday’s senseless murders, immediately calls for gun control rang out, but there is thus far no evidence that more laws would have prevented these tragedies.

Calls for 'Commonsense Gun Control' Re-Emerge after Virginia Shooting

Jeffrey T. Brown, American Thinker

The target of gun control is the vestige of the America that Barack Obama and his malcontents hate. Gun control is only “commonsense” if the people owning the guns stand in the way of what the left still seeks to achieve, which is political and cultural anarchy.

Senate Confirms Surgeon Gen. Despite Objection of NRA

Sarah Ferris, The Hill

Dr. Vivek Murthy was approved 51-43 as the nation’s top doctor despite opposition from the GOP for his support of gun control & ObamaCare. Three Dems voted against him, while Sen. Mark Kirk (Ill.) was the only Repub. to vote in favor.

For the first time in over 20 years, Americans support gun rights more than gun control. In a new Pew Research poll, 52% are in support of the protection of gun rights and 46% support gun control.

Unarmed Lethal Force

Carol Brown, American Thinker

Thirty-five percent of murders in America are committed without a gun. Deadly force comes in all shapes and sizes.
