SCOTUS Denies KY County Clerk Kim Davis' Appeal

David G. Savage, LA Times

A Kentucky county clerk claimed for months that she had a religious liberty right to refuse to issue marriage certificates to same-sex couples. She took her argument all the way to the Supreme Court. The justices agreed with lower courts, which ruled that Kim Davis, as an elected government official, had a duty to comply with the law. Davis has refused to issue any marriage licenses since the high court ruled June 26 that same-sex couples have an equal right to marry.
