Walmart Abandons Christian Market

Walmart AFA
Once upon a time Walmart was America’s store: The largest retailer in the world, where “Walmart families” were celebrated and Made in America goods were promoted, but no more.

Our friends at One News Now alerted us that Walmart has launched a "gay dating" video as part of an advertising campaign – a corporate move that the American Family Association says likely has Walmart founder Sam Walton "rolling over in his grave."

Last month, as part of a Valentine’s Day themed ad campaign called “Love Is in the Aisle: A Dating Show at Walmart,” which had three episodes, one of which included a same-sex couple. The ad features "Pat" and "Andy," two homosexual men on a "blind date" as they meet at the store, embrace, and then shop together. The objective, according to the video, is "to see if love is in the aisle." The video was distributed by posting on Facebook.

As we see it, the retail giant’s online video normalizes homosexual relationships and is a direct assault on the Biblical definition of marriage and Judeo-Christian mores.

"It's not only a promotion of homosexuality, but it's really an attack on God's design for marriage between a man and a woman," said American Family Association first vice president Buddy Smith. "We believe it's a very dangerous lifestyle; and the fact that Walmart would release this kind of video is even more in the face of Christian people who believe in God's design for human sexuality."

In an email to supporters AFA President Tim Wildmon said, “It's clear that Walmart is on the path of elevating homosexual relationships to the same level as the male-female model of marriage. We have no choice but to ask our supporters to let the company know how they, the customers, feel about Walmart's shift away from neutrality on this controversial issue to full support for same sex relationships.”

1. Sign the petition to Walmart now, urging them to remove the pro-homosexual video and remain neutral on controversial issues.

2. After you sign the petition, contact your local Walmart store manager. Walmart makes it too difficult to contact them on a corporate level because of the seemingly endless menu that keeps you going in circles. However, you can speak directly to a live person by calling your local Walmart and asking to speak to the store manager.

Let your local store manager know you are extremely disappointed in Walmart. Firmly but politely urge them to send your message up the chain of command, urging Walmart to remove the pro-homosexual video and remain neutral on controversial issues.

Three reasons to sign…Posting video, Promoting homosexuality, Praising pro-gay comments...

In a follow-up email Tim Wildmon said so far, Walmart has ignored requests on their Facebook page to remove the video. It’s as if they aren't listening, said Wildmon.

However, Walmart is not ignoring the comments of homosexual activists. Take a look at these posts to their Facebook page to get a flavor of where this is going:

Ryan Smith And this is why I love Walmart ???? I adore my 3am “dates” with my partner to the nearest super center!! Gotta love throwing on a onesie and shopping ???? keep it up Walmart! This means a lot to a lot of us!!!

Joseph Eagan AWESOME! When do we get to meet these guys at our local Walmart! Thanks to Walmart for appreciating your GLBTQ customers!

Austy Lee Lucas I think it would be so awesome if during pride month all the associates wore rainbow vest or pins!

According to Michael Gryboski of the Christian Post more than 137,300 people have signed the petition urging Walmart to take down its gay dating ad.

“At least with a company like Amazon, we knew they were liberal from the outset. But this seems more like a betrayal from a well-known friend. Sam Walton is probably turning over in his grave,” AFA said according to Michael Gryboski’s reporting.

Based in Arkansas, this is not the first time that Walmart has expressed pro-LGBT sentiments reports Gryboski. In 2015, the Arkansas legislature approved House Bill 1228, which was modeled off the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

Walmart CEO Doug McMillon denounced HB 1228, arguing in a social media post that the proposed legislation was anti-gay.

"Today's passage of HB1228 threatens to undermine the spirit of inclusion present throughout the state of Arkansas and does not reflect the values we proudly uphold," McMillon said at the time.  "For these reasons, we are asking Governor [Asa] Hutchinson to veto this legislation."

The Christian Post queried Walmart in 2015, asking what specific part of HB 1228 they objected to reported Mr. Gryboski. A spokesperson responded at the time that they could not name a specific quote or section of the bill that they objected to.

AFA will hand deliver the petition to Walmart President and CEO Doug McMillon on March 20. We urge CHQ readers and friends to sign the AFA petition and forward this article to their family, friends and fellow church members urging them to do likewise.
