Club for Growth “Key Votes” Defund Obamacare Vote

The influential Club for Growth criticizes the House GOP leadership because rather than fight to defund ObamaCare, or to even have an honest debate about it, House leaders have decided to go with a "smoke and mirrors" strategy that avoids the issue.

The influential Club for Growth has identified a "NO" vote on the RULE for the FY14 Continuing Resolution to be one of its “key votes” to be included in its 2013 Congressional Scorecard.

To underscore the importance of this vote Club for Growth  Vice President of Government Affairs Andy Roth sent the following alert to House members:

The Club for Growth urges all House members to vote "NO" on the rule for the FY14 Continuing Resolution (H.J.Res. 59). Consideration of the bill is scheduled for later this week. The vote on the rule will be included in the Club's 2013 Congressional Scorecard.

For several weeks now, the Club has urged lawmakers to defund ObamaCare in the FY14 continuing resolution. Rather than fight to defund ObamaCare, or to even have an honest debate about it, House leaders have decided to go with a "smoke and mirrors" strategy that avoids the issue.  Therefore, we urge lawmakers to oppose the rule. Our Congressional Scorecard for the 113th Congress provides a comprehensive rating of how well or how poorly each member of Congress supports pro-growth, free-market policies and will be distributed to our members and to the public.

The “key vote” alert comes on the heels of a statement from Club for Growth President Chris Chocola criticizing House GOP leaders for even thinking about offering such a strategy.

“When members were at home over recess, did they hear their constituents ask for legislative tricks or principled leadership? Trying to fool Republicans into voting to fund Obamacare is even worse than offering a bill that deliberately funds it. I hope this proposal is nothing more than a bad joke and is quickly discarded. Republicans should simply do what they say they are for by passing a Continuing Resolution that doesn’t fund Obamacare,” said Chocola.
