Goodlatte: Fraud Rampant in Asylum Requests

Bob Goodlatte

Last Friday we told you about the Arlington, VA immigration judge who told one teenage illegal alien who came before him to come back in three years, while giving others months more time to stay in the U.S. before their next hearings.

The reason it is so important to stop illegal aliens at the border is obvious – liberal immigration judges routinely grant asylum requests on the thinnest evidence and a huge percentage of illegal aliens who are released simply refuse to show-up for their hearings knowing that no one will make an effort to find them and compel them to appear.

In the first half of 2014, more than 52,000 unaccompanied minors crossed the Mexican border into the United States. There has also been a vast increase in mothers and pregnant women from Central America carrying their children across the border. These illegal aliens regularly turn themselves into Customs and Border Protection upon arriving at the border – and little wonder why.

According to US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) 65 percent of the unaccompanied alien minors who had petitioned the US government for asylum were immediately granted approval.

Now here’s where it gets interesting; in the words of the journalists at RT.com “that doesn’t mean that the 35 percent of unaccompanied alien minors who aren’t granted asylum right away will never get it.”

The House Judiciary Committee, chaired by Virginia’s Bob Goodlatte, reports that “Asylum approval rates overall have increased dramatically in recent years. Approval rates by asylum officers have increased from 28% in 2007 to 46% in 2013 and approval rates by immigration judges in affirmative cases have increased from 51% in 2007 to 74% in 2013.  Combining both of these approval rates, the vast majority of aliens who affirmatively seek asylum are now successful in their claims. This does not even take into account appeals to the Board of Immigration Appeals or federal courts. At the same time, an internal Department of Homeland Security report shows that at least 70% of asylum cases contain proven or possible fraud.”

Goodlatte went on to say that “President Obama’s refusal to crack down on rampant asylum fraud is one of the many reasons we are witnessing a surge of Central Americans seeking to enter the U.S. illegally at the border. New data showing that the vast majority of Central Americans’ asylum claims are immediately approved will only worsen the situation along our southern border by encouraging more to come and take advantage of the situation. Our asylum laws are in place to help individuals who are facing truly serious persecution in their countries. However, while I was in the Rio Grande Valley earlier this month, law enforcement officials on the ground said that the vast majority of Central Americans arriving at our border come to meet up with another family member who is already in the United States illegally.

We agree with Bob Goodlatte that our asylum laws are in place to help individuals who are facing truly serious persecution in their home countries – like say the Afghan and Iraqi interpreters who have had such an astonishingly hard time getting into America after their lives and those of their families have been threatened for helping us. And we most certainly agree that Obama and his Hispanic race-based allies, like La Raza, are abusing the asylum laws.

So if the evidence that Goodlatte’s committee has turned up indicates widespread fraud that obviously begs the question: What will Chairman Goodlatte and his Republican colleagues do about it?

Asylum Fraud

No doubt Goodlatte will continue to speak out of both sides of his mouth! He is a proponent of comprehensive immigration reform, or Amnesty! Another phony hypocrite who pretends to be concerned about America, all the while ready to sell out to the La Raza gang inside the Beltway and beyond!
