Breaking News: Conservative Grassroots Force Postponement of House Border Bill

UPDATE (2:34 p.m. ET): House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy just sent Republican House Members notice of an emergency meeting of the House Republican Conference.

The email includes this: "IMPORTANT SCHEDULE NOTE: Members are advised that we have a Special GOP Conference Meeting at 3:00 p.m."

Members are further advised that additional votes are possible in the House today.

More information will be relayed as soon as possible said the email from Ben Howard, Floor Assistant to Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy.

The Capitol Switchboard has been on fire with phone calls from voters angered by the House Republican leadership's plan to pass a border funding bill that would include provisions that would make it easier for President Obama to grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens. Originally scheduled for 1:20 p.m. today (Thursday, July 31, 2014) the House Republican leadership in an email from Kevin McCarthy apparently has postponed the bill.

"We are working through debate on Highway Transportation Funding" said an email from Ben Howard, Floor Assistant to Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy.

"This will bring us to roughly 2:00-2:15 p.m. when we will have our second and final vote series of the day and week on Motion to Disagree in the Senate Amendment to Highway Transportation Funding." (emphasis ours)

The email concludes by telling Members they will "walk off the Floor: 2:30-2:45 p.m." meaning there will be no time to vote on the border bill this week.
