Obama’s Gun Grab: To Protect Our Liberty We Need More Congressmen Like Mo Brooks

Yesterday, President Obama vowed to press ahead with new executive actions on gun control after meeting with top law enforcement officials, claiming he has the “legal authority” to act – and defying congressional critics who say he’s pursuing a “dangerous” overreach.

Republican “leaders” in Congress were quick to issue statements opposing Obama’s planned executive action.

Mo Brooks"While we don’t yet know the details of the plan, the president is at minimum subverting the legislative branch, and potentially overturning its will,” House Speaker Paul Ryan said in a statement reported by Fox News. “This is a dangerous level of executive overreach, and the country will not stand for it.”

Fox also reported that Rep. John Culberson (TX-7), who chairs a key appropriations panel, warned Lynch on Monday that he would “use every tool at my disposal to immediately restrict” DOJ funding if the department proceeds with “new restrictions on our Constitutional rights.”

Setting aside the fact that Ryan and Culberson already gave away their only leverage against Obama when they passed the Omnibus appropriations bill and funded his entire agenda for the rest of his term, neither of them actually attacked the basic premise of his actions – that government can and should restrict or ban the possession of firearms by ordinary Americans.

Leave understanding and eloquently opposing that proposition to Rep. Mo Brooks of Alabama

In comments to The Daily Caller News Foundation’s Katheryn Watson, Congressman Brooks explained that the Second Amendment is the “bedrock” of all other amendments, and the pro-gun control argument that the Second Amendment only applies to a militia-owning firearms is preposterous.

“The purpose of the Second Amendment was to ensure that the citizenry could protect itself from a dictatorial and out-of-control government,” Brooks told Watson.

“It has long been a primary goal of kings, dictators, communists, fascists and the like to disarm the citizenry so that there is minimal risk of opposition to centralized government, dictating to the citizenry that is unarmed and defenseless, and unable to assert their rights,” Rep. Brooks explained.

Brooks went on to explain that rather than rely on government to protect him and his family, he relied upon himself. “There’s terrorism and there’s crime,” Brooks said. “You never know when either one is going to happen. You can rely on terrorists and criminals not to hurt you, or you can prepare yourself so they don’t hurt you. I trust myself more than the terrorist.”

Brooks’ comments were, by the way, reflective of the attitudes of citizens across the country that CHQ reported yesterday in “Report From Real America: “Damn Obama, every time he goes on TV we sell out of ammo…”. “They say they’re buying because they don’t feel like the government is protecting us,” said gun shop owner Dan Mahoney. “That’s a theme I didn’t use to hear.”

And Congressman Brooks doesn’t just talk a good game about taking responsibility for his own safety and that of his family, he walks the walk.

“I do have a concealed carry permit, as does my wife,” Rep. Brooks told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

When the details and the text of Obama’s gun grab become public don’t blame Obama – blame Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell and the spineless Capitol Hill Republican “leaders” who forced through the Omnibus and empowered Obama to spend his last year in office attacking constitutional liberty, stripping you of your rights and fundamentally changing America.
