Liberal Journalist Goes Shooting Once And Gets “PTSD”

You can’t really make this up.

As background for his article “What is it like to fire an AR-15? It’s horrifying, menacing and very very loud,” New York Daily News writer Gersh Kuntzman recently went shooting and after firing-off a few mags from an AR-15 ended-up with “PTSD” as he termed it.

Gersch Kuntzman AR 15Kuntzman’s ostensible reason for the shooting expedition to Frank Stelmach’s Double Tap Shooting Range in the Philadelphia area was, in the wake of the Orlando Muslim terrorist attack, to “understand the firepower of military-style weapons and, hopefully, explain their appeal to gun lovers.”

This is clearly the wrong question because it conflates Muslim terrorists with “gun lovers,” but you have to go with Kuntzman’s premise to get the full flavor of just how screwy liberals think.

To Kuntzman shooting an AR-15 “…felt to me like a bazooka — and sounded like a cannon.”

But mostly, said Kuntzman, “I was just terrified.”

Mr. Stelmach explained his views on background checks etc. (he’s for expanding them) and in the end said “It’s fun to shoot something like that,” referring to the AR-15 Kuntzman was test firing.

It didn’t sound like too much fun for Mr. Kuntzman who described his AR-15 experience this way:

Not in my hands. I’ve shot pistols before, but never something like an AR-15. Squeeze lightly on the trigger and the resulting explosion of firepower is humbling and deafening (even with ear protection).

The recoil bruised my shoulder, [Editor’s note: Mr. Stelmach should have given Kuntzman a better safety check] which can happen if you don't know what you're doing. The brass shell casings disoriented me as they flew past my face. The smell of sulfur and destruction made me sick. The explosions — loud like a bomb — gave me a temporary form of PTSD. For at least an hour after firing the gun just a few times, I was anxious and irritable.

Even in semi-automatic mode, it is very simple to squeeze off two dozen rounds before you even know what has happened. If illegally modified to fully automatic mode, it doesn’t take any imagination to see dozens of bodies falling in front of your barrel.

All it takes is the will to do it.

Finally, Mr. Kuntzman gets to the real question “Who has the will to do it?” not, “What are the cosmetic features of the weapon used in the crime?”

And I’ll give him some credit for correctly identifying San Bernardino terrorist Syed Farook and Orlando terrorist Omar Mateen as terrorists.

But when gun shop owner Frank Stelmach discusses his views on expanded background checks including the purchaser’s family and associates Kuntzman misses a real opportunity to explain what kind of terrorists Farook and Mateen are – they are Muslim terrorists, jihadis.

And to screen American jihadis out of gun ownership we need to engage in exactly the kind of profiling, checking of social media and other lines of investigation that might raise charges of what liberal journalists like Mr. Kuntzman call religious bigotry or “Islamophobia,” but what most Americans see as common sense.

Gun ownership isn’t for everyone – as Mr. Kuntzman’s terror at using one demonstrates.

Kuntzman’s one-time shooting expedition could hardly explain to him that target shooting is for me the same as golf is for my golfing friends – each shot is an opportunity to perfect your technique and each target is an opportunity to achieve that elusive perfect score.

Nor can firing off a few mags at a shooting range explain the mystical bond between hunter and prey and the gratitude the hunter has that his skill and the Lord’s bounty put this animal before him to feed his family.

Bottom line: If shooting leaves you in terror and gives you “PTSD” after a few minutes on a gun range don’t buy a gun, and for sure don’t try to take mine.

The Capitol switchboard is 1-866-220-0044 we urge all CHQ readers to call Speaker Ryan and tell him you oppose anti-constitutional attempts to chip away at the Second Amendment’s protection of the fundamental right to keep and bear arms.

These gun grabbers should all move and live in a gun free zone, and of cause no arm security it will defeat the gun free zone rule.....lets see how that will work out?.

Liberal firing an AR-15

My bet would be that this liberal wuss has never in real life fired anything more dangerous than a popgun. I'd hate to see him fire a real machine gun. He'd pee down both legs at the same time!

I wonder if he'd feel the

I wonder if he'd feel the same way at 3 am when an armed intruder was in his house? Or if he was on a deserted stretch of road being menaced by a gang of thugs? That AR just might feel pretty good just about then.

Liberal PTSD

All liberals get PTSD when they are forced to live in the teal world.

This guy is so afraid of a gun it magnifies the experience. A 223 is hardly going to be a round that sounds like a cannon. Ignorance is no excuse.
