Establishment Media Acting Like Planned Parenthood’s PR Network

The latest from our friends at NewsBusters highlights the pro-abortion storyline in establishment coverage of the effort to repeal Obamacare: legislation to defund Planned Parenthood.

As a recent NewsBusters study shows, so far in this news cycle, the major networks have skewed the coverage of the effort to defund Obamacare to make it look like the repeal effort is not about Obamacare’s Defund Planned Parenthoodfailed business model and job killing taxes and regulations, it’s all about Planned Parenthood.

Naturally, the so-called moderate Republicans were quick to follow the establishment media storyline.

"Obviously, I'm not happy to hear that the Speaker wants to include defunding of Planned Parenthood, an extremely controversial issue, in the package," Senator Susan Collins told reporters.

Collins added on Thursday that she believes there are a "significant number" of House Republicans, led by Rep. Charlie Dent (Pa.), who don't support linking Planned Parenthood defunding to the reconciliation bill.

Collins paired up with GOP Sens. Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) and Mark Kirk (Ill.) in 2015 to try to strip a provision defunding Planned Parenthood from the Senate's ObamaCare repeal bill.

Collins said Thursday she "may well" offer a similar amendment to the Senate's new version, but stressed that she couldn't predict what would be in the final legislation or what would pass the House according to reporting by The Hill’s Jordain Carney.

However, as Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser points out:

Polling in 2018 Senate battleground states shows that voters support re-directing Planned Parenthood’s funding to community health centers."

While in contrast, many liberal media outlets sidestep the question of fungibility in government funds.

"... Huffington Post, recently argued that many Trump voters oppose the defunding of Planned Parenthood. As proof, they cited a Politico poll taken right before the 2016 election. But the poll was a scam -- here’s the question:

In the election, funding of Planned Parenthood has been an issue. Planned Parenthood is an organization that provides family planning and preventative health services. In addition, it provides some abortion services. Currently, the federal government provides funding assistance for some of Planned Parenthood’s health services, but not for abortions. Do you support or oppose ending ALL federal funding to Planned Parenthood because they provide some abortion services?

If Planned Parenthood loses its government funding, it won’t be because of the media -- it will be despite the media.
