Rep. Devin Nunes: Twenty-First Century Patriot

The oath that federal officials, including Members of Congress, take when they are sworn in is that they will “defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same…”.

It now appears that at some point in their careers some of the top civil servants at the FBI and Department of Justice decided to break that oath and to substitute their personal political agenda for the will of the American Rep. Devin Nunespeople by actively attempting to undermine the campaign of candidate Donald Trump and to discredit him after the election.

When those individuals made that choice, they became domestic enemies of the Constitution and it was the obligation of every sworn federal official to expose and prosecute their attempted coup.

Of all the federal officials who could have and should have acted against those unprecedented crimes only one man had the courage to expose them and hopefully set their prosecution in motion: Representative Devin Nunes, Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

Assisted by Rep. Mike Conway (TX-11), who stepped in when Democrats tried to sideline Nunes with a specious ethics complaint, Nunes has doggedly worked to exercise legitimate congressional oversight of the FBI and expose the intelligence abuses of the Obama-era FBI and Justice Department.

According to Democrats, the Nunes memo suggests that "a cabal of senior officials within the FBI and the Justice Department were so tainted by bias against President Trump that they irredeemably poisoned the investigation."

One would think that in a constitutional republic all political factions in Congress would want the crimes now alleged to have occurred to be exposed and measures taken to ensure that such misdeeds could never happen again, lest the same tactics be used against them in the future, but such is not the case.

Democrats, led by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (who once sat on the Intelligence Committee) and Rep. Adam Schiff (CA-28) have done everything they can to stymie Nunes’ efforts.

What’s worse, now that it appears that the results of Nunes’ investigation will be released to the public, Democrats are doing everything they can to discredit Nunes and to destroy him.

According to multiple media reports, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi wrote Speaker Paul Ryan on Thursday demanding the removal of Nunes as Intelligence Committee chairman, saying he has "disgraced" the committee with "dishonest" actions related to an ongoing probe of Russia and the Trump presidential election campaign.

The hypocrisy of Pelosi’s claim is astonishing, given that she has been shown to have lied regularly about her knowledge of inconvenient intelligence matters, particularly her knowledge of the Bush administration’s use of enhanced interrogation methods that later became politically unpopular among Democrats.

Rep. Schiff – if such a thing is possible – has been even worse than his Boss Rep. Pelosi. He has leaked confidential information to the media and concocted a rebuttal to the Nunes memo that has already been stalled from release due to its inaccuracies.

Democrats have also enlisted their Leftwing allies, such as Common Cause and to smear Chairman Nunes and undermine his efforts to release his committee’s findings.

In an email to supporters, Leftwing activist Aimee Martinez claimed “Rep. Nunes' attacks on the integrity of the Mueller investigation are a shameful partisan stunt” and asked recipients to “Click here to sign and share my petition pressuring Speaker Paul Ryan to remove Nunes from participating in the Russia investigation completely.”

Ms. Martinez concluded by saying, “We can't allow Rep. Nunes to continue spreading unfounded innuendo about the Russia probe to undermine its credibility. Last year, Rep. Nunes had said he'd remove himself from this investigation due to conflicts of interest, but instead has sought to misdirect the committee's investigation and disrupt Mueller's work.”

That none of this is true does not matter to Democrats, who want to hide their complicity in these frightening abuses, rather than fulfill their oath to expose them.

At this point it is only proper to ask why Democrats are fighting so hard to hide the information in the Nunes memo?

The only reasonable answer to that question is that Democrats do not find the allegations in the memo to be frightening, merely politically inconvenient. They think it is business as usual to use the vast power of the federal government to spy on your political opponents, and they want to be able to conduct these activities again, should they ever obtain the power to do so.

There are few patriots in Washington who will stand in the breach and take the pressure, smears and abuse that Devin Nunes has suffered since he resolved to make public the memo about Obama-era FBI and Department of Justice attempts to undermine Donald Trump. All liberty loving Americans of whatever political stripe owe him a debt of gratitude for his patriotism, perseverance and integrity.

Nunes a patriot

Perhaps the left should recognize the Rep. Nunes is a patriot, willing to stand up and be counted. They celebrated Daniel Ellsberg's release of the Pentagon Papers. With 40 years of historical reflection, we can perhaps acknowledge some validity to that feeling, but we don't need 40 years of reflection to recognize that Rep. Nunes stands arm-in-arm with Daniel Ellsberg as someone who is shining a light on an "inconvenient truth."

Nice article you wrote. Interestingly, the character assassination that has been attempted on Nunes is identical to what has been going on against Donald Trump. The swamp is far deeper than most of us ever realized or imagined. I hope they both stay strong and keep up their good work. America needs them, and more like them badly. Those who are trying to take them down are disgusting and dangerous to our society, and must be legally dealt with!

Kudos to Mr. Nunez, has integrity at this time. Hope it does not wane.
