Assault on America, Day 127: Booker’s proposed gun grab makes him scariest of all 2020 Dems

Why do Democrats despise freedom?

Anyone posing such a question would draw protests from party members and those insisting liberal big government philosophies do not amount to political slavery, but these days some Democrats are saying, doing and proposing things that are flat out counterintuitive and anti-liberty.

Take Senator Cory Booker’s movement to initiate a federal gun license requirement. Where’s the freedom in rolling back rights? S.A. Miller reported at The Washington Times, “Sen. Cory A. Booker of New Jersey proposed Monday that all gun owners be licensed by the federal government, grabbing attention for his struggling campaign by delving into the gun control debate that has flummoxed Democratic presidential hopefuls for decades.

“Firearm licenses topped a long list of measures that Mr. Booker prescribed for what he called the ‘epidemic of gun violence.’ He also wants to limit Americans to one gun purchase per month, crack down on firearm manufacturers, ban military-style semi-automatic rifles and beef up the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to go after gun dealers.

“He pledged that on his first day as president he would bypass Congress and take executive action to restrict gun sales and crack down on unscrupulous dealers and gun manufacturers.”

Unscrupulous dealers and gun manufacturers? What the heck is that? Aren’t there already stringent licensing requirements for dealers and manufacturers?

Whereas practically all the 2020 Democrats have promised bold executive actions to foist their utopian pipedreams upon the unsuspecting American public, Booker is maybe the first to come right out and state he’ll go it alone on guns regardless of the political process, the Constitution or what anyone else considers an overstep. It’s the ultimate example of a pol thumbing his nose and dribbling nanny-nanny-boo-boo to conservatives, constitutionalists and citizens who take offense at dictatorial guarantees and pontificating from a member of the elite swamp class.

Critics of Booker’s anticipatory gun grab passed it off as the desperate act of a presidential candidate best remembered for his “I am Spartacus” moment during last fall’s Kavanaugh confirmation hearings. Simply stated, Booker needs something to distinguish him from his fellow competitors, many of whom already carved a niche in the certain-to-be nasty Democrat primary race.

Back slappin’ and hair sniffin’ Joe Biden’s opened up a 20-or-so point lead in national polls having firmly annexed the establishment lane, embracing both the “I am moderate and sane” label as well as swearing he’s a dedicated liberal who would gleefully extinguish and reverse all the positive economic policies President Donald Trump’s instituted in a little over two years at the helm. Seemingly undamaged by multiple allegations of excessive groping and other creepy behaviors, Biden should be a formidable candidate, though there are those who insist he’ll fade (because his corrupt past will catch up with him once it hits the light of day).

Meanwhile, near octogenarian Bernie Sanders has a firm grip on the ultra-leftist burn-it-all-down faction of the Democrat primary electorate, maintaining a solid second-place level of support despite his crazy hand gestures and even nuttier ideas (like letting felons vote). Sanders is determined to demonstrate he’s energetic enough to govern the country at his age, making frequent guest appearances on cable channels and any other news show that will have him.

Elizabeth “Pocahontas” Warren’s holding her own (if you call polling in low single digits a good thing) by regularly earning headlines with outside-the-mainstream concepts like paying off over a trillion bucks worth of student loan debt and permanently financing everyone’s higher education (on the backs of the rich, of course). Warren’s also embraced slavery reparations and made calls to impeach Trump, employing the ultimate throw darts and see what sticks campaign strategy.

Booker’s fellow African-American candidate Kamala Harris is maintaining her national identity, occupying parts of several electoral “lanes” -- namely the woman lane, minority candidate lane, I’m-from-California lane and regularly dipping her toe in the “I’m as nutty as any of them” lane. Ask Kamala if she’s for something and she immediately likes the idea, no matter how stupid or impractical. It’s like there’s never been an original thought in the woman’s skull, which makes her a perfect fit for Democrats.

And “Mayor Pete” Buttigieg’s got a corner on the fresh-face, calm-demeanor, you’ve-never-heard-of-me-yet-I’m-still-qualified-to-be-president lane. Oh yeah, and he’s got something the others completely lack, membership in the LGBTQ “community” and a “husband” to show off his devotion to the ultimate liberal social causes. (It should be noted there’ve been rumors for years that Booker is gay, though strangely enough he denies it.)

Like Booker, all of these candidates aren’t wild about freedoms either -- except if you’re non-white, female, homosexual, transgender and/or can show you’ve been oppressed by big whitey and Trump’s privileged lot of Republican followers… the “deplorables.” Should you fit one of these categories, you’re entitled to extra protection by Uncle Sam’s long arm of the law as well as the politically correct thought police patrolling social media and establishment media circles.

So where does Booker belong? Nowhere. The guy’s just a two-bit junior senator from a bluer than blue state, an African-American without Obama’s good looks or golden gift for oratory. Booker probably figured he could replicate the “chosen one’s” content-free hope and change baloney, repackage it with similar non-pale skin and instantly attract at least double-digit support from the truer-than-true faction of black Democrat diehards. Maxine Waters, where are you? Don’t you want another brother or sister to beat Trump? Come on!

According to Miller’s article, Booker likens firearms licenses to driver’s licenses, would require fingerprinting, background checks and the completion of a government-sanctioned gun safety course to buy a firearm. Sacrificing your first born not required!

One wonders whether Booker knows more than everyone else or is merely improving on the Founding Fathers’ wisdom, men who placed the right to bear arms in second place behind such essential freedoms as speech, religion, assembly, petition and the press in the First Amendment. Why didn’t James Madison and Alexander Hamilton think of requiring Americans to get a license to buy a gun? Or take a “gun safety” instruction course taught by the captain of the local militia? Or file papers at the local courthouse? Heck, back then a good chunk of the population was illiterate. How could they do any of those things?

But to Democrats the Founders were a collection of backwards, ignorant, white, slave holding hypocrite rubes having bad wig days! Forget all that natural rights crapola -- “gun violence” is an “epidemic” (like cholera?) and needs to be treated!

Booker would also go after gun manufacturers, creating a cause of action for victims -- like a gun maker has any control over the human being squeezing a gun’s trigger. If this ever comes to fruition it’ll be the end of firearms, period. Booker knows it. Freedom be damned!

Last but not least, Booker would expand laws that prevent people accused of domestic violence (from purchasing guns) to include dating partners. Better pre-screen those dates, guys. Wow, “Spartacus” Cory would end the practice of dating, too!

Florida Sen. Rick Scott couldn’t resist adding (via Twitter) his two cents on Booker’s crazy proposal, which then attracted a bonus comment from none other than Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Justin Wise reported at The Hill, “The exchange on Twitter started with Scott voicing criticism of Sen. Cory Booker's (D-N.J.) sweeping gun control proposal that includes license requirements for all gun owners. Scott denounced it as a ‘terrible idea,’ adding that it would be ‘scary’ if the 2020 Democratic presidential candidate assumed power in the White House.

“’What's next? Will we have to register sharp knives?’ Scott asked on Twitter. ‘Maybe [Ocasio-Cortez] will make us register every time we buy meat as part of her #GreenNewDeal.’ …

“Ocasio-Cortez accused Scott's statement of lacking ‘honesty.’ ‘If you were a female candidate, maybe you’d be called 'unlikeable,' 'crazy,' or 'uninformed,'’ Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. ‘But since you’re not, this inadequacy is accepted as normal.’”

Scott replied he was being sarcastic about AOC and the Green New Deal. But the Bronx airhead clearly didn’t get the joke.

Unfortunately for Americans, Sen. Cory Booker’s not being ironic in yearning to federalize gun ownership. True, he’s just trying to draw attention to his flailing presidential bid, but none of the other 2020 Democrats condemned anything in Booker’s crackpot plan either. Talk about “scary”.
