Call Congress NOW To Stop The ‘Equality Act’

Doreen Denny
Make no mistake: If the Equality Act (H.R.5) passes, standing for traditional sexual morality would essentially be outlawed. And, as we explained in our article “Christian Conservative Women and Radical Feminists Agree and Oppose the Equality Act” it's so bad for women that radical feminists are now joining with conservative Christian women to fight it.

The so-called Equality Act (HR 5), which would amend the Civil Rights Act redefining the meaning of “sex” as male and female to include the categories of sexual orientation and gender identity.

Concerned Women for America’s Senior Director of Government Relations, Doreen Denny, issued the following statement:

The bill would create a world in which women and girls are no longer recognized, protected or dignified as uniquely female. In jobs, education, sports, shelters or any public space, any biological man classifying himself as a woman according to his ‘gender identity’ would have every claim to any women’s program, scholarship, sports roster, competition, boardroom, executive office, women’s shelter, bathroom, locker room, or job. Under the Equality Act, everything women have done and achieved over the last half century to improve opportunities and protections in education, sports, the workplace, and society could be overruled by any male claiming “womanhood.”

Back in January The Heritage Foundation’s Rachel del Guidice reported that four self-described liberal feminists said that this “gender equality” legislation pushed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will jeopardize women’s rights and actually promote inequality.

“The Equality Act, which sounds all well and good, is an unmitigated disaster for women and girls,” Kara Dansky, a lawyer and board member at the Women’s Liberation Front, said at an event at The Heritage Foundation featuring her and three other feminists.

“And the thing is, it is not possible to both enshrine gender identity in civil rights law and protect women and girls as a distinct legal category at the same time,” Dansky said. “It’s just not possible.”

As women’s tennis legend Martina Navratilova recently said in the Sunday Times of London: “Letting men compete as women, simply if they change their name and take hormones, is unfair — no matter how those athletes may throw their weight around.” Considered one of the best female tennis players of all time, Navratilova is a lesbian-rights activist but bluntly called out this male invasion of women’s athletics as “insane” and “cheating.”

Kristen Waggoner, senior vice president of U.S. legal division for Alliance Defending Freedom wrote in an op-ed for The Hill that opposition to the Equality Act isn’t just about a male-tilted playing field. If gender-identity ideology becomes the law of the land, women in all walks of life will suffer the consequences of the blatantly sexist notion that a man who adopts stereotypical feminine roles, behaviors or clothing must be treated in all respects as a woman.

Codifying the Equality Act into federal law also means that American women will lose out on crucial opportunities protected after their hard-fought efforts to enact Title IX, which provides for equal educational opportunities for women.

Forced equality of a false reality is not the American way, wrote Kristen Waggoner, and it should not become the American way. Long ago, George Orwell poignantly rejected the idea that “some citizens are more equal than others.” Congress should do no less: It should reject the Equality Act and protect women’s privacy and support equal opportunity for women. The federal government should not turn the clock back on women. We should encourage our representatives to oppose the so-called “Equality Act” and instead support true diversity, tolerance and freedom.

Concerned Women for America sent letters to House Judiciary Members and have joined hands with radical feminists (Women’s Liberation Front) and other interested groups (Hands Across the Aisle) in our mutual concerns over the Equality Act. The US Equality Act: Gender Identity Impact Summary delineates why women on both the Right and the Left are united in purpose against this bill. Making “gender identity” a protected characteristic under federal law would erase the protected category of sex which has been a foundation for securing the rights and opportunities of women in the United States.

Now here’s the danger if more than a few of the usual RINOs in the House vote with the Democrats to pass this bill.

As our friend John Stonestreet, president of the Colson Center for Christian Worldview explained, until recently, most of us believed there wasn't much of a chance of the Equality Act ever becoming law. That's because it was assumed that the GOP-majority Senate, which owes its electoral viability to the support of conservative Christians, would not allow it to happen. I hope that's still the case, but there is reason to be concerned.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce recently announced its support for the Equality Act. This would be a game-changer because, historically, the Chamber has been a major supporter of the GOP. For instance, in the last elections it endorsed 191 Republicans and only 7 Democrats.

The Equality Act will be voted on in the House today, we need every Republican to vote NO to send a strong signal to Republicans in the Senate – and here’s why: If the act is brought to a vote by the Senate, all that would be required is for a handful of Republicans to vote "Yes" for it to pass and go to the President.

It appears that Senator Susan Collins of Maine could be one of the Act's sponsors in the Senate. That's one down, four to go. Thus, the Chamber's endorsement could make the difference between defeat and passage.

We urge CHQ readers and friends to call their Senators and Representative (the toll-free Capitol Switchboard is 1-866-220-0044) NOW to demand they vote NO on HR 5, the so-called Equality Act.

'Equality Act'

Isn't it amazing how the left names their legislation exactly opposite of what it is designed to accomplish? This 'Equality Act' is intended to make Evil not only equal to Good. But superior to everything decent.

Democrats think the American people are stupid. And why not? We prove them right over and over again.

The left hates our Constitution. They hate God and His word. They hate the prosperity, security and freedom that Americans have achieved. They feel guilty about everything America stands for. They want us to feel their guilt. And If we don't agree with them. They will do everything in their power to punish those of us who hold to the things which make America Great.
