Joe Biden Is No ‘Moderate’ On Immigration And Amnesty For Illegal Aliens

Biden on immigration
Former Vice President Joe Biden is selling himself as the “moderate” Democrat in the race for President. However, as we have pointed out in previous articles, such as The Myth Of Joe Biden The Moderate, on issue after issue, Sleepy Joe is every bit as radical as Bernie Sanders.

And where Biden did have some relatively moderate positions, such as his past support for the Hyde Amendment’s prohibition on federal funding of abortion, he has flipped and now supports the radical Left’s “government paid abortion to the moment of birth” position.

Biden’s position on amnesty for illegal aliens is just his latest departure from the views of “moderate” Americans.

As our friend Jessie Jane Duff documented in an article in the Orange County Register, if Joe Biden’s radical stance on immigration is what passes for “moderate” in the Democratic Party, then they really have gone off the progressive cliff.

When asked last year during a campaign stop whether some illegal immigrants deserve to receive federal benefits, Biden remarked that the government has an “obligation” to provide free healthcare to everybody, illegal aliens included.

“I think that anyone who is in a situation where they’re in need of health care, regardless of whether they are documented or undocumented, we have an obligation to see that they are cared for,” he said according to retired Marine Gunnery Sergeant Duff’s research.

She further observed that in 2017, the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) estimated that “the total cost of illegal immigration for the United States — at the federal, state, and local levels — was approximately $116 billion.” Around $18.5 billion of that goes toward healthcare for illegal immigrants — and that’s despite the fact that we don’t currently allow illegal immigrants to access taxpayer-funded health care.

But cost is beside the point for Biden. During his time in the Obama administration, he openly admitted that he thought of illegal aliens as U.S. citizens.

“You know, the 11 million people living in the shadows, I believe they’re already American citizens,” he said in 2014. “These people are just waiting, waiting for a chance to be able to contribute fully. And by that standard, 11 million undocumented aliens are already American.”

Already Americans?

Well actually according to Lunch Bucket Joe, some illegal aliens are even more American than Americans.

During a campaign stop in Iowa reported by our friend at the Washington Examiner, Biden claimed that illegal immigrants who received protected status via the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program are “more American” than most U.S. citizens. And that because some DACA recipients have done well in school, they should be offered a path to citizenship.

"These kids have come. They’ve done well. Most of these kids — there’s a lot of them, and they’re not just Hispanic. They’re Asian Pacific Islanders as well. And they, in fact, have done very, very well,” the so-called “moderate” Democrat said.

“In many cases, they’re more American than most Americans are because they have done well in school. They believe the basic principles that we all share. I think they should be, in fact, fine [to] put on a path to citizenship.”

Oh, and Biden has also promised to ensure Dreamers are eligible for federal student aid, such as loans, Pell grants.

Biden has also suggested that Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents who arrest and deport illegal aliens for drunk driving should be fired and that the act itself should not be considered a felony.

"They go off to school wondering whether their mom comes and picks them up [or] if she’s not going to be there because an ICE agent was there to arrest her. Or she takes him to the doctor, that she’s going to not be there because she is ‘undocumented’ and an ICE agent is going to pick him up," Biden told Vice magazine regarding illegal immigrants.

"You change the culture by saying you are going to get fired. You are fired if, in fact, you do that. You only arrest for the purpose of dealing with a felony that's committed, and I don't count drunk driving as a felony.”

In another act of “moderation” Biden has also promised that within his first 100 days he is President he will reverse the current administration's public charge rule:

Allowing immigration officials to make an individual's ability to receive a visa or gain permanent residency contingent on their use of government services such as SNAP benefits or Medicaid, their household income, and other discriminatory criteria undermines America's character as land [sic] of opportunity that is open and welcoming to all, not just the wealthy.

These proposals would ensure that all aliens who are illegally present in the United States, aside from those who had committed crimes so significant that the administration could not ignore them or who posed a serious enough national security risk, would be able to live free of the threat of removal indefinitely. In essence, these proposals would create an "amnesty in place", gut worksite enforcement, create a magnet for millions to enter the United States illegally and prove a boon to human traffickers and fraudulent-document vendors.

But hey, to today’s Far-Left Democrats, that’s a moderate position.
