If Republicans really control the Senate, then why are they making confirming Republican President Donald Trump’s department heads and subcabinet posts so difficult? A case in point is the nomination of Rep. Jim Bridenstine to serve as administrator of NASA, whose nomination has languished since September 2017.

We are inclined to agree with Rep. Jim Bridenstine’s point that Congress’s core constitutional responsibility is to provide for the common defense.  But the record of congressional Republicans on exercising oversight of the Pentagon and spending is thin at best.
