Over the weekend Chad Pergram of FOX News reported, "Dem NY Rep Jamaal Bowman pulled fire alarm in Cannon Building, forcing evacuation as Dems tried to buy more time to
read new CR. USCP criminal investigation unit is questioning Bowman."
For some reason Mr. Pergram later deleted his tweet breaking the story, but House Administration Committee Chairman Bryan Steil subsequently confirmed the investigation tweeting, “Rep Jamaal Bowman pulled a fire alarm in Cannon this morning. An investigation into why it was pulled is underway.”
The move came as Democrats were desperately employing tactics to delay the vote, including Democratic Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (Brooklyn/Queens) using his privilege to make a speech and forcing a vote on a motion to adjourn.
Jon Levine of The New York Post reported, Bowman insisted to reporters afterward that he pulled the alarm handle because he thought it would open a door.
“I was rushing to make a vote, I was trying to get through a door. I thought the alarm would open the door,” he said.
“I didn’t mean to cause confusion . . . I didn’t know it was going to trip the whole building.”
He also added: “I want to be very clear, this was not me, in any way, trying to delay the vote. It was the exact opposite — I was trying urgently to get to a vote, which I ultimately did.”
The New York Post later reported, Bowman said he “met with the Sergeant at Arms and the Capitol Police” and explained his side of the story, adding: “My hope is that no one will make more of this than what it was.”
We call BS on that, unless Bowman is admitting to being even dumber than the average Democrat.
And Representatives Lisa McClain and Nicole Malliotakis aren’t the only ones on the Hill not buying Bowman’s stupidity excuse.
“This is the United States Congress, not a New York City high school. To pull the fire alarm to disrupt proceedings when we are trying to draft legislation to AVERT A SHUTDOWN is pathetic…even for members of the socialist squad,” Malliotakis wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) ripped the far-left pol for disrupting Saturday’s activities before demanding that the Department of Justice prosecute him for obstruction of an official proceeding — the same charge that has been used against January 6 rioters.
“NY Democrat Jamaal Bowman literally pulled a fire alarm to stall and prevent our efforts to force a vote to keep the federal government open. Pathetic. Criminal investigation needs to happen,” said upstate GOP Congressman Nick Langworthy.
New York Rep. Elise Stefanik claimed that Bowman’s stunt amounted to a “felony.”
In addition to the false report emergency misdemeanor charge, pulling the fire alarm could also possibly constitute illegal obstruction of congressional proceedings — a federal felony, according to the Washington Examiner.
Bowman could also potentially be charged with obstruction of justice under D.C. law, which includes “corruptly, or by threats of force, any way obstructs or impedes or endeavors to obstruct or impede the due administration of justice in any official proceeding,” according to the outlet.
As usual Speaker Kevin McCarthy was wishy-washy about what happens next. "But this should not go without punishment," McCarthy told NBC News' Julie Tsirkin. "This is an embarrassment."
It’s more than an “embarrassment” this was an attack on the good order of the House and should be dealt with accordingly.

So now we have to teach incoming members of Congress the difference between an actual door and a fire alarm . . . ?!
If he gets away with this our country is doomed
I know that when I want to open a door, I always look for a little red device with white lettering that says "PULL IN CASE OF FIRE" on it. Riiiiight! Couldn't pulling a fire alarm when there is actually no fire constitute a violation of the First Amendment, something like yelling "fire" in a crowded theater? Any way you look at it, this CR is a bad deal for the country.
Jaamal Bowman is a liberal. Which means that he's a hypocrite and a liar because all liberals are hypocrites and liars just like their father the devil.
Jaamal, you is a criminal-moron.
