FLASH: House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer Statement on Hunter Biden Indictment.
Yesterday, House Republican released the text of a resolution to formalize the impeachment inquiry into the conduct of President Joe Biden.
Rep. Kelly Armstrong (R-N.D.) authored the 14-page resolution that instructs the House Ways and Means, Oversight and Judiciary Committees to continue their investigation into whether President Biden profited from office while vice president and participated in or benefited from his family’s influence peddling and foreign business dealings, including with Communist China and Ukraine.
The resolution is scheduled for markup on Tuesday with a vote expected later next week.
Rep. Armstrong also released the text of a five-page resolution that authorizes the enforcement of subpoenas.
Former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy initiated the impeachment inquiry on September 12, without a House vote. Democrats argued that the inquiry was illegitimate without a vote. In response the House Republican leadership concluded that while they didn't think a vote was legally required, the optics would be better with a formal vote.
"According to the Constitution, you don't need it, you can start an impeachment inquiry the way we're doing it," House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said on Monday, according to reporting by Jackson Richman of the Epoch Times. The impeachment of President Donald Trump had also proceeded the same way, following the authorization of then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).
"[Former] Speaker of the House [McCarthy] said it three months ago, but we think it always helps if the full House of Representatives on the record, a majority of that body, has said this is an official impeachment inquiry," Mr. Jordan said, adding he expected court challenges to the impeachment inquiry as well.
Based on the evidence developed by the House Oversight Committee, House Judiciary Committee and the House Ways and Means Committee the impeachment authorization resolution is expected to pass.
The resolution is – contrary to how the Democrats conducted the impeachments of President Trump – surprisingly even handed specifying that initial questioning in hearings will be no longer than 90 minutes altogether. Both the majority and the minority will have equal time for questioning.
It also appears that the minority Democrats may be allowed to call their own hearings and witnesses. "Subpoenas and interrogatories so authorized may be signed by the ranking minority member, and may be served by any person designated by the ranking minority member,” stated the resolution.
The resolution states that the committees can release a report of their findings.
The demands for a formal impeachment inquiry have grown louder as probes by the Oversight Committee, the Ways and Means Committee and the Judiciary Committee have turned up bank records revealing at least $20 million in payments from foreign entities that were channeled through 20 shell companies to members of the president’s family as well as their business associates.
The payments—sourced from such countries as Russia, China, Ukraine, and Romania—were also observed to have begun during the president’s time as vice president and, in some cases, coincided with his trips to those countries.
Another key finding was that a confidential FBI source had alleged that President Biden received a $5 million bribe to ensure that a Ukrainian prosecutor investigating a company his son worked for was fired.
The Biden White House and Democrats have called the allegations against President Biden a "bunch of lies," however, earlier this week House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) released subpoenaed bank records revealing Hunter Biden’s business entity, Owasco PC, made direct monthly payments to Joe Biden, putting to lie Biden’s claim that he did not benefit from Hunter Biden’s influence peddling schemes.
Following subpoenas to obtain Biden family associates’ bank records, Chairman Comer issued subpoenas for Hunter and James Biden’s personal and business bank records. The House Oversight Committee has identified over 20 shell companies and uncovered how the Bidens and their associates raked in over $24 million dollars between 2015 and 2019 by selling Joe Biden as “the brand.” Financial records obtained show Hunter Biden’s business account, Owasco PC, received payments from Chinese-state linked companies and other foreign nationals and companies.
Payments to Joe Biden from Hunter’s Owasco PC corporate account are part of a pattern revealing Joe Biden knew about, participated in, and benefited from his family’s influence peddling schemes. As the Bidens received millions from foreign nationals and companies in China, Russia, Ukraine, Romania, and Kazakhstan, Joe Biden dined with his family’s foreign associates, spoke to them by speakerphone, had coffee, attended meetings, and ultimately received payments that were funded by his family’s business dealings.
To explain how just one of the payment schemes worked Chairman Comer released a video outlining the direct payments Joe Biden received from Hunter’s Owasco PC bank account and stated the House Oversight Committee will continue to follow the money to ensure accountability for President Biden’s involvement in his family’s corrupt domestic and international business schemes.
Below is a transcript of Chairman Comer’s remarks:
President Joe Biden claimed there was an “absolute wall” between his official government duties and his family’s influence peddling schemes.
This was a lie.
President Joe Biden claimed his family didn’t receive money from China.
This was a lie.
President Joe Biden claimed he never spoke to his son, Hunter Biden, about the Biden family’s shady business dealings.
This was a lie.
Now, Hunter Biden’s legal team and the White House’s media allies claim Hunter’s corporate entities never made payments directly to Joe Biden.
We can officially add this latest talking point to the list of lies.
Today, the House Oversight Committee is releasing subpoenaed bank records that show Hunter Biden’s business entity, Owasco PC, made direct monthly payments to Joe Biden.
This wasn’t a payment from Hunter Biden’s personal account but an account for his corporation that received payments from China and other shady corners of the world.
At this moment, Hunter Biden is under an investigation by the Department of Justice for using Owasco PC for tax evasion and other serious crimes.
And based on whistleblower testimony, we know the Justice Department made a concerted effort to prevent investigators from asking questions about Joe Biden.
I wonder why?
The more we learn, it appears the Justice Department was trying to cover up for the Bidens – until brave IRS whistleblowers came forward and a federal judge rejected the sweetheart plea deal.
Payments from Hunter’s business entity to Joe Biden are now part of a pattern revealing Joe Biden knew about, participated in, and benefited from his family’s influence peddling schemes.
When Joe Biden was Vice President, he spoke by phone, attended dinners, and had coffee with his son’s foreign business associates.
He allowed his son to catch a ride on Air Force Two at least a dozen times to sell the “Biden Brand” around the world.
Hunter Biden requested office keys to be made for his “office mate” Joe Biden in space he planned to share with a Chinese energy company.
We’ve revealed how Joe Biden received checks from his family that were funded by the Bidens’ influence peddling schemes – with China no less.
The House Oversight Committee continues to investigate Joe Biden’s involvement in his family’s domestic and international business schemes at a rapid pace.
We will continue to uncover the facts and provide transparency about the findings of our investigation.
President Biden and his family must be held accountable for this blatant corruption.
The American people expect no less.
