Kevin McCarthy’s Password Protected ‘Commitment to America’

If you haven’t seen House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy’s much-ballyhooed “Commitment to America” you are probably not alone, because when we tried to access it on the GOP Leader’s website we got a “password protected” message.

We are guessing the universe of individuals who have the password is limited to the usual DC Uniparty hacks, grifting consultants and sleazebag lobbyists who cling lamprey-like to the House GOP Leader, but with the crucial midterm election now only weeks away you’d think even an intellectual laggard like Kevin McCarthy would want the good news of the House GOP’s “Commitment to America” to get out.

Editor's Note: The password protection is now off, so take a look and tell us what you think.

We even tried to get in through the link in Jed Babbin’s article about it on the American Spectator website – no joy.

In that article Mr. Babbin torched McCarthy and the anemic “Commitment to America” as not stacking up to Newt Gingrich’s “Contract with America” and for good reason.

As Babbin explained:

Gingrich was the first real MAGA candidate. His conservatism in 1994 was brilliant, hard-nosed, and pitched to the average American. He was a fireball across the sky. By the inevitable and unfortunate comparison, the next would-be House speaker, current Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, is a smoldering campfire.

The impact of McCarthy’s “Commitment to America” is a fair measure of its effectiveness: It crashed on takeoff. The mainstream media ignored it as did the conservative media. And deservedly so.

The “Commitment” makes three promises: to restore our way of life, to rebuild our economy, and to renew the American dream. There’s no detail, no clear and certain promises. Aside from some apparently unconnected promises to cut inflation and to not pass more inflationary Biden-like programs, that’s all there is.

McCarthy’s “Commitment” isn’t a winner because it lacks specific campaign pledges that people can rally around to reverse the damage President Joe Biden has done to America’s safety, economy, and credibility at home and abroad. Just as importantly, it lacks the personal commitment of all of the Republicans who seek to become the House majority.

Comparing Kevin McCarthy to Newt Gingrich is a little like comparing your high school science teacher to Albert Einstein, but it is not like winning the House majority in 2022 is as complicated as the theory of relativity. All you have to do is make your opponent’s first name “Biden” said Newt.

And he’s right, but instead of going on offense with specific promises to rollback Joe Biden’s unpopular policies, what Kevin McCarthy offered up is the usual grifting DC consultant, lobbyist-approved pablum that results in perennial Republican defeats.

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Leader McCarthy could go out and do some focus groups with real Republican voters outside the Beltway (preferably not run by ‘Mr. Words that Work’ Frank Luntz) or he could stop at a truck stop for a cup of coffee and to pump bilges to find out what real Americans think, instead of listening to a bunch of clowns who have never done anything but go to college and work in DC.

Based on my most recent informal gun range poll, here’s what a large majority of those real Americans would tell him:

They want the border secured and the 2 million illegal aliens that Biden let in sent back to wherever the H they came from.

They want creepy purpled-haired sex freaks out of their schools and libraries and prohibited from talking to their kids about sex in or out of school.

They want the federal government to spend the absolute minimum amount necessary to fulfill its constitutional responsibilities. That means no libraries named after Congressmen, no studies of the mating habits of snail darters, no more inflationary “stimulus” handouts, and other pork, and boondoggles.

They want the Democrat crime wave stopped by putting criminals in jail and keeping them there, cops funded and put on the streets to catch criminals and prosecutors and DAs on the job who will prosecute thieves, murders and rapists to the full extent of the law.

They want an end to “woke” in the military, in schools and in government – meaning no asking for pronouns, no 23 or 58 genders and no phony Latinx or LGBTQA++ pandering by their government.

They want their constitutional rights, especially the right to freedom of speech, religious liberty, and the right to keep and bear arms respected and protected.

They want the government abuses of the Obama and Biden years, especially the FBI, investigated, exposed, and corrected.

And finally, they want the federal government off their backs and out of their faces.

None of those things are hard – Republicans already have bills to address many of them. Leader McCarthy still has time to turn this around, but first he must grasp that this election is about the future of America and it’s for all the marbles – it’s not about whether he’s minority leader or majority leader – and what is needed to win it are new ideas and commitments painted in bold colors, not the pale pastels of the past.

Meanwhile, the GOP seems perfectly content to let Medicare go insolvent. Talk about gutless and weak . . . retired folks with no health care . . . despicable.

I, for one, do not trust Kevin McCarthy. Ditto for "the Turtle" over in the Senate.

I would greatly prefer the great Joseph McCarthy was our leader, folks. He'd clean Biden's clock . . . !

Let us not forget that after Newt's "Contract With America" led to the GOP retaking both sides of Congress for the first time in five decades, the Republican Party did little while in control.

Key in that shortcoming was failing to push for Congressional term limits promised in the Contract With America. That was a huge mistake. Term limits would cure many ills in our current political abyss. Career politicians was not a goal of the Founding Fathers.

So Newt Gingrich also deserves criticism for failing to make sure Republicans fully honored that Contract With America.

The milquetoast Republicans are running the party. It's time for MAGA leadership. That's the choice for November: Do you want Milquetoast or MAGA? The only way to do that is to get rid of the current leadership. Until that happens, and it won't take very much longer the way we're headed, the Republic is TOAST.

Replying to

Conservative voters must only vote for Constitutional, MAGA conservatives. No more moderates and RINOs. Force the GOP to field those conservative candidates.

Better to vote for conservative third-party candidates (if any are available, obviously) or not vote at all for that office at all rather than continuing to elect moderates and RINOs--simply because they have that "R" next to their name on the ballot.
