The Right Resistance: Forget UFOs, the aliens that should truly terrify us are already here on earth

Is the bogeyman really under the bed?

You might think so if you’ve watched the news of late. The media (establishment and otherwise) is devoting an astonishing amount of coverage to the subject of Unidentified Flying Objects (more commonly referred to as UFOs), something that heretofore was on par with the notorious bogeyman in terms of believability and mysterious legend. As a kid, your older sibling or a school bully might’ve tried frightening you by telling ghosts stories about things that go bump in the night, and you never truly knew what was behind that closet door until you got up and opened it (if you dared). But even then, UFOs were considered logically impossible.

The product of fantastic imaginations and science fiction writers, learned scientists assured us -- once we came of age -- that the distances in the solar system, galaxy and outer space were simply too great to have extraterrestrial visitors arriving from worlds hundreds, thousands or millions of light years away. Besides, if there were aliens at all, they might just as well be like the adorable and semi-cuddly (no, not gross) life form from the movie “E.T.” Or how about Richard Dreyfuss sculpting Wyoming’s Devil’s Tower National Monument out of mashed potatoes in the fascinating 70’s flick “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”? His character was drawn to the things, not terrified by them.

Fear of the unknown is a stimulating feeling. If it weren’t true, there wouldn’t be so many “Ghost Tours” offered by historic tourist attractions. But try as they may, UFO tour guides are probably only successful in places like Roswell, New Mexico (purportedly the site of an alien crash in 1947). That is, maybe until our own government stirs up more interest. Far-fetched? You decide.

In a piece titled, “The Conventional Wisdom on UFOs Is Shifting,” Jim Geraghty wrote at National Review last week:

“Much like the sudden shift on the conventional wisdom around the lab leak, the conventional wisdom about UFOs — not necessarily space aliens, but the existence of flying objects that authorities cannot identify — is shifting rapidly; it’s like you can feel the ground moving beneath your feet. 60 Minutes did a lengthy and credulous report, featuring declassified videos of objects that don’t look like any conventional aircraft, and interviews with former Pentagon officials and retired Navy pilots who seemed convinced.

“No less a figure than former president Barack Obama is weighing in, indicating that he, as president, was kept in the loop about what U.S. military pilots were seeing the skies and unable to identify.

“Last night on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Obama declared, ‘What is true, and I’m actually being serious here, is that there is footage and records of objects in the skies that we don’t know exactly what they are.’ He continued: ‘We can’t explain how they move, their trajectory. They did not have an easily explainable pattern. And so I think that people still take seriously, trying to investigate and figure out what that is.’”

Far be it from me to believe anything Barack Obama said, but he seems to have an air of credibility surrounding this particular topic. 60 Minutes did indeed do a lengthy segment featuring interviews with military folks-in-the-know who’ve actually encountered the things, and Tucker Carlson seemed enthralled enough to discuss UFOs on several different occasions recently.

On none of the media broadcasts did a reporter (legitimate or otherwise) sit down and interview little green men (or women?) with oversized heads and bottomless black eyes with no lids. There weren’t any squeaks from R2D2 and the journos didn’t try recreating the infamous bar scene from Star Wars either. Those aliens were real in a cinematic sense, and no doubt somebody won an Oscar for “Best Costumes” at some point for bringing the oddities to life.

In his piece, Geraghty lays out four main possibilities for the sightings -- the flying things could be something from our own government, a secret advancement from the private sector (Elon Musk is a forward thinker, isn’t he?), budding threats from an enemy, or, drumroll please, real aliens. The National Review writer touches each topic and appears to conclude, we just don’t know what they are and maybe it’s best to leave it at speculation.

It's safe to say no one -- or at least those with more recognizable daily concerns -- would be talking about UFOs if the media wasn’t seizing on the subject. While it’s true that the U.S. military is finally coming forward with information on a “threat” that’s been “out there” for at least two decades -- if not the better part of a century -- one suspects the talkers are running out of benign things to discuss concerning the Biden administration if we’re dishing on aliens or peculiar foreign technology of the extreme kind.

Closer to the earth, we have live human “aliens” invading our borders every day and the more conventional military incursions overseas aren’t the subject of conjecture, they’re real. Could it be that Barack Obama went on late night TV to basically draw attention to himself by revealing a piece of what he was informed about when he was Joe Biden’s boss not all that long ago?

Democrats have lots of freakish characters within their own caucus that could qualify for an intense study by reporters. Wouldn’t it be relevant to probe the educational backgrounds of socialism promoters like Alexandria Ocasio Cortez and Bernie Sanders? There are lots of facts involved with them, things the general public would certainly appreciate knowing above the remote possibility that we’re being watched from other-worldly beings.

The truth is, the majority party would much prefer keeping the January 6 “mostly peaceful” protest and riot at the head of newscasts. If liberals and the media can’t get people running for shelter by tortured visions of space invaders, why not try and scare them for the umpteenth time by cherry-picking footage of a kooky but harmless guy in red, white and blue paint and buffalo horns? Or how many times can establishment news outlets show random alleged Trump supporters waving Confederate flags and ransacking Nancy Pelosi’s office?

Authentically terrifying was the recent news that the illegal aliens streaming over the southern border practically undeterred by the current regime aren’t just migrant farm workers from Mexico and Central America. No, they’re coming from all over God’s green earth. Byron York (of the Washington Examiner) reported last week that people from over 160 countries around the globe have been caught by the federal authorities in the past year.

Size that up for a moment -- wannabe U.S. welfare recipients are boarding planes and then making the overland trek from Mexico City for the chance to enter this country and be permitted to stay courtesy of the generosity and political hunger of the Biden administration and the unwitting American taxpayer. Needless to say, deportation for nationals from the deepest parts of the planet would be difficult to repatriate through regular means. We can’t just dump ‘em back in Mexico, can we? Maybe Canada? Or Greenland?

If UFOs are authentically viewed as a potential national security threat, what about the risk of a terrestrial attack from dedicated Islamists on a suicide mission? Poll the average person to see whether they’re more afraid of a space alien outside their window or a Molotov cocktail wielding Black Lives Matter activist tussling with police, and you’ll garner the difference.

Kamala Harris hasn’t been seen much lately… is she more engaged with investigating the Navy’s accounts of strange airborne objects or doing something about the aliens that speak human languages and carry deadly diseases like COVID-19? Perhaps she’d get serious if we dressed up the trespassers in space suits and outfitted them with faux laser guns.

We shouldn’t make light of the government’s newfound interest in the possibility of someone watching us -- from outer space or Russia or China -- but this fixation on UFOs looks suspiciously like another distraction from the terrestrial disasters taking place all around us. We can’t trust the establishment media to remain focused. It’s up to us to pick up the slack.
