The Right Resistance: Turncoat Liz Cheney’s quest to get Trump collapses in wave of disinterest

Did Donald Trump just receive a tacit endorsement for his likely 2024 comeback presidential run from a person who loathes him?

It certainly seems to be the case, though the mouth behind the presumptuous call was none other than Nancy Pelosi collaborator, January 6 (show trial) Committee ranking member and soon-to-be ex-congresswoman Liz Cheney. Ever since the Democrats’ no-holds-barred effort to depict Dick Cheney’s little girl as a hero and champion of the people failed to produce their desired result, the bespectacled 56-year-old disgraced outcast from the high plains has been staying out of the camera eye. Or could it be that the liberal cable channels simply lost interest in her? Same thing.

It’s been well over a month since Wyoming’s agitated and annoyed conservative Republican voters removed any possibility that the nation’s most notorious carpetbagger and party turncoat would return to haunt the hallowed halls of the lower chamber next term, yet the self-righteous, ego maniacal, Donald Trump-hating Cheney made news recently by openly promising to campaign for Democrats in 2024 should the former president end up the GOP’s 2024 nominee.

Cheney’s name is mud in conservative circles, and since most conservatives are Republicans, and most Republicans wouldn’t give the time of day to Liz, doesn’t this mean that by conceding that she’s joining the opposition, the woman is all-but speaking on behalf of Trump’s return to American politics?

“Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) said on Saturday that she will not remain a Republican if former President Donald Trump is the GOP presidential nominee in the 2024 elections, and that she would also be willing to campaign for Democrats to stop GOP nominee Kari Lake from being elected in the Arizona gubernatorial race...

“Cheney, who has become one of the most vocal voices in the Republican Party against former President Donald Trump, later added that she would not remain a Republican if he were to gain the party’s nomination in 2024. ‘I’m going to make sure Donald Trump, I’m going to do everything I can to make sure he is not the nominee. And if he is the nominee, I won’t be a Republican,’ Cheney said...

“Asked whether she herself would run for president in 2024, Cheney did not provide a decisive answer. ‘It’s not about me or making a decision about what I’m going to do,’ she said. ‘I certainly will do whatever it takes to make sure Donald Trump isn’t anywhere close to the Oval Office.’ Cheney announced in August that she’s considering running for president in 2024 but has not yet made a decision on the potential run.”

What a liar. Of course Cheney’s made up her mind whether she intends to run for president in 2024 – and she’s going to do it. How else would a legacy loser politician like Liz be able to “stop” Trump from winning the nomination? She’s already tried the powwow with Democrats thing and that hasn’t deterred Trump one iota in his quest to Make America Great Again while stomping on the Washington DC swamp establishment and the Democrats along the way.

Cheney figures she’d have plenty of financial backing from wishy-washy establishment Trump haters like herself if she were to launch a campaign and serve as sacrificial sycophant for the Democrats and the left. Can’t you just see it now? Every Bush or McCain or Romney Republican will open up their checkbooks and scribble a large figure to the “Liz for America” PAC. All the money will go towards consulting fees for large DC firms that will be paid handsomely to poll and produce ads for Liz’s lonely vendetta crusade, the goal being to qualify for televised debates where she can appear on stage and make a jackass of herself while savaging Trump and all of her fellow intra-party competitors as MAGA suck-ups.

Who knows? Maybe her father and George W. Bush will receive plenty of face time clapping and cheering Liz’s every word. Cheney despises Trump and his voters. In this, she’s just like Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and the rest of the Democrats!

Using 2016 as a precursor, Cheney will adopt the role of “healer” for the NeverTrumpers. John Kasich will be her chief campaign advisor and act as her manager. She doesn’t need much coaching, but professionals will be brought in to work on her facial expressions and speaking style. Liz will have already memorized her canned 25-second speech, so her handlers will just purchase her a new wardrobe and fashion a new hairstyle to appeal to whatever feminist voters might be watching. Here’s thinking Crooked Hillary will send over some of her signature worn pantsuits so the RINO can look the anti-Trump part.

As noted in Roberts’s report, Liz doesn’t like Republicans who tout elections integrity, either. Cheney pointed to Arizona Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake’s questioning of the 2020 presidential election as grounds to support Lake’s Democrat opponent in the Grand Canyon State this year. Liz’s outward hatred of any Republican who backed delving deeper into voter fraud and examining the plethora of evidence suggesting a rigged election will earn him or her Liz’s automatic opposition, a group which allegedly includes Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin. Youngkin flew to Arizona to campaign for Lake, and that’s sufficient justification to engender Cheney’s animosity.

For what it’s worth, Youngkin said he has no doubt that senile Joe Biden won the election, but he wanted to bolster Lake’s candidacy out west because she’s a fellow Republican. You see, Cheney doesn’t understand that concept – rooting for a party member due to his or her inherent superiority to any Democrat – because Liz is so wrapped up in her personal hate battle against Trump that she can’t separate herself from the January 6 riot.

Put another way, Cheney’s nose is so far up Nancy Pelosi’s backside that she’s practically a Democrat already. So what difference does it make if she leaves the GOP? Would anyone miss her? Liz can take Adam Kinzinger with her while she’s at it. And it looks as though only one of the ten Republicans who voted to impeach Trump a second time last January will be back in the House next year. For you math challenged folks out there, that’s a 90 percent attrition rate.

Actor Kevin Costner will join Cheney in submitting his resignation to the Republican National Committee while promising to hit the road with Liz to campaign for Democrat candidates. Oh, wait – Costner’s already done that – campaigned for Democrats! Hollywood actors, Mitt Romney, the good (not!) folks at The Bulwark and the leftovers from The Lincoln Project will also sign on to Cheney’s mission.

In all seriousness, Donald Trump and all Republicans should be glad that Liz Cheney continues to disregard common sense and keeps making media appearances to further embarrass herself with her inane bitterness over her family spat with the Trumps. For the longest time, the NeverTrump “movement” – if you can call it that – lacked a visible leader, the type of person with political street credibility to work the CNN/MSNBC circuit whenever he or she felt like it.

It's safe to say the American public has reached the saturation point with Democrats standing on their proverbial soap boxes and railing against Trump. This has been happening for seven years, more or less, and there really isn’t anything that a hater could say that would influence someone’s opinion now. But there still are some disgruntled Republicans out there who enjoy “insiders” making similar claims.

The January 6 riot has run its course. After the initial shock wore off and the facts rolled in, those who were truly interested in learning what happened surmised that the hissy fit the media threw over QAnon guys with horns sitting in the senate president’s chair was mostly a concocted fraud. We now know that the capitol police opened the doors to the east entrances and passively watched while the crowd flowed in.

We also know the only person who was the victim of a homicide that day was an unarmed Trump supporter shot by a Capitol policeman in a suit. We’ve also learned that the cops were engaged in brutality of their own in certain areas. An ugly scene? Absolutely. But it wasn’t an “insurrection” or an organized attempt to overthrow the government – or even to prevent the Electoral College from meeting.

Liz Cheney’s ongoing hysterics regarding that one afternoon serves to highlight the absurdity of the entire episode. Instead of convincing people to join her point-of-view, Liz is motivating Trump backers to redouble their efforts to get him to run again.

As I’ve argued before, Democrats will never welcome Liz Cheney into their tent as one of their own. They’ll allow her to speak at rallies or compliment her for appearances on friendly cable channels, but as soon as Liz outlives her usefulness to them, they’ll cast her on the reject heap faster than she can say “Donald Trump is a criminal” for the trillionth time.

Americans are heartily sick of DC political families like the Bushes and Clintons -- and Dick Cheney wasn’t that loved to begin with. Blueblood Republicans yearn for the pre-Trump days when the party brains controlled everything and no nominee snuck by without their approval. Trump gave the GOP back to the grassroots, and they’re not about to give it up.

Liz Cheney’s promise to leave the Republican Party and to campaign for Democrats if Donald Trump (or someone like him) wins the presidential nomination equates to an endorsement in practical ways. No one likes Cheney and her say so doesn’t carry much weight with the people who matter. Keep talking, Liz, you’re only making Trump’s comeback all the more probable.

Time to knock off the Dick in Drag routine. Nauseating and bad manners.
