Trump Gets A Correction But Not An Apology From The Washington Post

Yesterday, the Federalist’s Mark Hemingway reminded us that on Jan. 9, The Washington

Post published a bombshell report about what President Trump reportedly said on a phone call to the Georgia elections investigator. The headline was “‘Find the fraud’: Trump pressured a Georgia elections investigator in a separate call legal experts say could amount to obstruction.”

As Mr. Hemingway and others have noted, a few days ago, on March 11, the Post quietly changed the headline and added this correction to the top of the story:

Correction: Two months after publication of this story, the Georgia secretary of state released an audio recording of President Donald Trump’s December phone call with the state’s top elections investigator. The recording revealed that The Post misquoted Trump’s comments on the call, based on information provided by a source. Trump did not tell the investigator to ‘find the fraud’ or say she would be ‘a national hero’ if she did so. Instead, Trump urged the investigator to scrutinize ballots in Fulton County, Ga., asserting she would find ‘dishonesty’ there. He also told her that she had ‘the most important job in the country right now.’ A story about the recording can be found here. The headline and text of this story have been corrected to remove quotes misattributed to Trump.

What actually happened was that the Post removed the quotes that were totally fabricated, not just “misattributed” to former President Trump.

In the wake of the “correction” former President Trump issued this statement:

The Washington Post just issued a correction as to the contents of the incorrectly reported phone call I had with respect to voter fraud in the Great State of Georgia. While I appreciate the Washington Post’s correction, which immediately makes the Georgia Witch Hunt a non-story, the original story was a Hoax, right from the very beginning. I would further appreciate a strong investigation into Fulton County, Georgia, and the Stacey Abrams political machine which, I believe, would totally change the course of the presidential election in Georgia.

Fulton County has not been properly audited for vote or signature verification. They only looked at areas of the State where there most likely would be few problems, and even there they found large numbers of mistakes. We are seeking to find and reveal the large-scale election fraud which took place in Georgia. Many residents agree, and their anger caused them not to turn out and vote for two Republican Senators in the January election.

The Consent Decree signed between Raffensperger and Stacey Abrams was not approved by the Georgia State Legislature, and therefore should be deemed invalid, and the election result changed. Why the Governor and Raffensperger ever approved this Consent Decree is one of the great questions? We look forward to an answer.

You will notice that establishment media errors, omissions, mistakes, and outright lies always slant one way—against me and against Republicans. Meanwhile, stories that hurt Democrats or undermine their narratives are buried, ignored, or delayed until they can do the least harm—for example, after an election is over. Look no further than the negative coverage of the vaccine that preceded the election and the overdue celebration of the vaccine once the election had concluded. A strong democracy requires a fair and honest press. This latest media travesty underscores that legacy media outlets should be regarded as political entities—not journalistic enterprises. In any event, I thank the Washington Post for the correction.

In a just world the Washington Post management and the reporters responsible for that travesty would have also offered Donald Trump an apology, not just a correction. However, there is no justice for Donald Trump in any institution controlled by the political establishment, so the correction of the outright lies in the headline and story were as much as he was going to ever get.

One thing the Washington Post, and the many other media outlets that ran with the fabricated quotes, could do to make amends for their smear of the former President would be to take him up on his challenge to investigate the Fulton County Georgia election operation.

In the wake of the contested election the Fulton County director of elections was fired, and now reports Alex Nitzberg of Just the News, a judge "said he's inclined to order the ballots to be unsealed and reviewed by experts hired by Garland Favorito, a voting-integrity advocate." The judge "said he's willing to order the absentee ballots to be unsealed if he's assured their security will not be compromised. He requested a detailed plan, including who would review the ballots, how they would analyze them and how they would secure them."

As our friends at Just the News revealed, there is plenty of real news still being made about Georgia’s 2020 election, but you won’t find it in the Washington Post. If the Washington Post won’t apologize to Donald Trump for using anonymously sourced fake quotes, the least they can do is honestly report the real news still being made about the 2020 election as it breaks.
