After Far-Left Democrat Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) criticized AAF and urged the IRS to target conservative groups it has been revealed the IRS is now auditing the conservative American Accountability Foundation, Twitter handle @exposingbiden.
According to reporting by Tyler O'Neil of the Daily Signal, the Internal Revenue Service has moved to audit a conservative group that has exposed the radicalism of some of President Joe Biden’s nominees to senior administrative posts, and in so doing, led him to withdraw their candidacies.
The American Accountability Foundation has exposed numerous Biden nominees, and it published emails showing that Whitehouse had encouraged the IRS to target conservative organizations, including AAF, for extra scrutiny and investigation.
“Senator Whitehouse has repeatedly called for the IRS to investigate AAF—by name,” AAF President Tom Jones told The Daily Signal in an emailed statement Monday. “Attacking groups like ours has been a priority for Senator Whitehouse and it appears the Biden admin has heeded his calls.”
“We’re auditing your organization’s Form 990 for the tax year ended December 31, 2021,” an IRS revenue agent wrote in a Sept. 14 letter to AAF. The organization provided a copy of the letter to The Daily Signal.
Mr. O'Neil reported the IRS would neither confirm nor deny that AAF is being audited.
“AAF is being attacked because it is successful,” Jones told O’Neil. He mentioned a few of the Biden nominees AAF criticized whose nominations Biden later revoked.
When Biden nominated David Chipman to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, Jones unearthed allegations that Chipman, who had served as a special agent at ATF until 2012, had remarked that “African American agents … must have been cheating” because they passed an exam. Biden withdrew Chipman’s nomination after AAF revealed the alleged comments.
When Biden nominated Gigi Sohn to join the Federal Communications Commission, AAF purchased billboards and ran newspaper and digital ads opposing her nomination. AAF highlighted the Fraternal Order of Police’s opposition to Sohn, which noted her statements indicating “serious animus towards law enforcement officers.” Sohn withdrew her nomination following the scrutiny.
AAF also warned that Saule Omarova, then a nominee for comptroller of the currency, had apparently joined a self-declared Marxist group on Facebook in 2019. Biden also withdrew her nomination.
“Whether it is Gigi Sohn at the FCC, David Chipman at the ATF, Saule Omarova as Biden’s bank czar, there are numerous people who have been exposed because of AAF’s work,” Jones told The Daily Signal. “Apparently, the administration has decided they want to stop that by weaponizing the IRS against us.”
“This sudden request by the IRS is not random,” AAF President Tom Jones told Jason Cohen, contributor to the Daily Caller News Foundation. “The IRS is demanding ‘[c]orrespondence files, emails and information posted on a website that relates to current public elected officials’ – clearly a sign that they are targeting our research and education activities. It’s a deliberate attempt to punish and suppress AAF’s activities. It is surely no coincidence that AAF—the very organization that exposed the weaponization of the IRS—is now the target of it.”
Mr. Cohen reported Whitehouse also targeted AAF’s partner and supporter Conservative Partnership Institute’s tax-exempt status in letters to the IRS, according to his website. This included calling for the IRS to look into revoking Turning Point USA’s tax-exempt status due to hosting a large event without masks and social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, this pattern of the IRS auditing enemies of the Democrat President didn’t start with letters from one corrupt Democrat Senator.
We all remember how the Obama IRS, in a program run by the infamous Lois Lerner, targeted Tea Party affiliated organizations. The IRS later settled litigation related to the targeting for 0ver $3 million of our taxpayer dollars, but Lois Lerner was allowed to skate scot-free and retire with her giant taxpayer funded pension intact.
And the weaponization of government against Biden opponents isn’t limited to conservative non-profits.
It is worth noting that after billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk bought Twitter (now X) and began to dismantle its censorship partnership with the federal alphabet agencies for the blacklisting of conservatives and other opponents of free speech, vaccine mandates and endless wars, he found himself on the receiving end of a host of regulatory inquires from the Securities and Exchange Commission and other Biden regulatory agencies.
