Conservatives Key Vote ‘NO’ On Continuing Resolution

As Democrats try to cut a deal with the Capitol Hill GOP’s weak kneed Republican leadership to fund Joe Biden’s Far Left priorities, conservatives are demanding Republicans stand firm

and use what little power they have to defeat the proposed Continuing Resolution (CR) and stop Biden, Pelosi and Schumer from wreaking further destruction upon our country.

Our friend Adam Brandon, President, FreedomWorks, issued the following statement announcing that the FreedomWorks activist community demands a NO vote on the CR:

On behalf of FreedomWorks’ activist community, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to vote NO on the Further Extending Government Funding Act, H.R. 6119. This continuing resolution (CR) would temporarily fund the federal government through February 18th, 2022 due to Congress’ inability to pass the required appropriations bills on time. A vote in favor of this CR is a vote to continue decades of congressional ineptitude and a vote in support of unlawful and invasive vaccine mandates.

This CR continues to kick the can down the road on the congressional appropriations process and highlights just how dysfunctional Congress is when it comes to funding the government.

Congress is asleep at the wheel. Instead of doing their job and fulfilling their primary responsibility of passing a federal budget, Congressional Democrats are seeking to kick the can down the road yet again. Amid reconciliation, fiscal conservatives should be appalled by Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Schumer’s audacity with this legislation.

It has been a quarter of a century since Congress did its job and passed a complete budget through the statutory process before the end of the fiscal year. The past 25 years have seen five presidential administrations and numerous flips in Congressional control, yet the result is always the same. Seemingly incapable of meeting a deadline, Congress continually uses budgetary gimmicks like this Continuing Resolution to absolve themselves of their constitutional responsibility.

Worse still, supporting the continued funding for unlawful vaccine mandates for millions of Americans is inexcusable by Congress. Regardless of whether or not the judiciary puts an end to President Biden’s gross executive overreach and invasive vaccine mandates, there is absolutely no reason why lawmakers should vote to fund its enforcement.

The continued practice of governance by CR merely sets up another showdown that will push Congress into enacting yet another massive last-second spending binge. Congress will continue spending at near-record deficit levels and shirking their constitutional responsibilities.

FreedomWorks will count the vote for the H.R. 6119 on our 2021 Congressional Scorecard and reserves the right to score any amendments, motions, or other related votes. The scorecard is used to determine eligibility for the FreedomFighter Award, which recognizes Members of the House and Senate who consistently vote to support economic freedom and individual liberty.

Likewise, our friends at the Club for Growth issued the following statement, announcing they will “key vote” the CR:

Club for Growth opposes the Continuing Resolution, and urges all Senators and Representatives to vote NO. A vote is likely to occur soon. The results of this vote will be included in the Club for Growth Foundation’s 2021 congressional scorecard.

The Continuing Resolution agreement will fund the federal government through February 18, 2022. However, the legislation does not prevent federal funding for the enforcement of the Biden administration’s unconstitutional vaccine mandates. While the COVID vaccines are innovations that should be celebrated, the force of government should not be applied in requiring Americans to be vaccinated. In fact, the Biden Administration does not have the Constitutional or statutory authority to mandate Americans be vaccinated. Additionally, as the courts consider the litigation associated with the Biden Administration’s vaccine mandates, Congressional affirmation of the funding may be considered by the court in so far that Congress will have spoken and approved the federal funding for enforcement.

The Biden vaccine mandate is also about jobs. Although most American adults are already vaccinated against the coronavirus, about 20 percent of adults are not. When businesses and American workers are mandated into a specific action, whether it is a health insurance mandate or a vaccine mandate, the labor effects are disastrously harmful to the U.S. economy. If the Biden vaccine mandate is permitted to take effect, the economy will undoubtedly shed millions of jobs. This is a boneheaded risk at a time when the supply chain is threatened and inflation is rising at historic levels.

Finally, the Biden vaccine mandate is another step toward Socialist control. The tyrannical demonstration of power may start with vaccine mandates on adult workers. Next, vaccines might not be optional for children, but also mandated. American rights are under siege and an all-out defense of our liberties must be preserved in the face of adversity from the overreaching Biden administration.

The most efficient way for Congress to weigh in on this issue is through explicitly defunding the vaccine mandates. Enumerated powers within Article I give Congress this essential ability to fund the federal government and therefore it is the Constitutional responsibility for Senators and Representatives to take action on this CR to defund this unconstitutional vaccine mandate.

Politico reports an unknown number of Republicans in both chambers are coalescing around an effort to intentionally shut down the government in an effort to defund the Biden administration’s vaccine mandate on the private sector. Beside the vaccine mandate threat, Republicans and Democrats remain at odds over two essential details: how long the funding bandaid would last and which, if any, spending areas would be exempted from flat-funding and would see an increase in the Continuing Resolution.

The toll-free Capitol Switchboard (1-866-220-0044), tell your Senators to vote NO on Cloture for the CR and NO on the question and tell your Representative to vote NO on the Rule and NO on final passage.
