Impeachment Is Really About Stamping Out The MAGA Movement

FLASH: Sen. Mitch McConnell says, “given the rules, procedures, and Senate precedents

that govern presidential impeachment trials, there is simply no chance that a fair trial or serious trial could conclude before President-elect Biden is sworn in next week.” It remains to be seen if the Senate will take up impeachment after President Trump leaves office.

Democrats and establishment Republicans have a simple goal in launching another impeachment of President Trump: They want to ensure that Donald Trump and the MAGA Movement are forever stamped out, and they are not afraid to say it publicly.

“It is true that the president’s remaining term is limited — but a president capable of fomenting a violent insurrection in the Capitol is capable of greater dangers still,” Democrats wrote in the impeachment documents presented to the House. “He must be removed from office as swiftly as the Constitution allows. He must also be disqualified to prevent the recurrence of the extraordinary threat he presents.”

The “extraordinary threat” that Donald Trump represents is his commitment to the forgotten men and women of America, and his ability to rally them to support his America First Agenda.

One would think that Republican leaders would recognize those forgotten Americans as their base voters, instead they are playing into the Democrats’ hands and all but guaranteeing the fracturing of the Republican Party that could bring them back to a majority in Congress if they kept it intact through 2022.

Instead Republican “leaders” on Capitol Hill have been very quick to blame President Trump for the January 6 riot. With “leaders” like these it is easy to understand how “dump the GOP” has become a trending topic among the few conservatives left on social media.

NPR reported Republican House Leader Kevin McCarthy added his name to a shortlist of Republicans in Congress who unequivocally blamed President Trump for the riot at the Capitol last week.

"The president bears responsibility for Wednesday's attack on Congress by mob rioters," said McCarthy, whom NPR claims during the riot, publicly and privately urged Trump to call for calm.

McCarthy went on to claim, "These facts require immediate action from President Trump — accept his share of responsibility, quell the brewing unrest and ensure that President-Elect Biden is able to successfully begin his term. And the president's immediate action also deserves congressional action, which is why I think a fact-finding commission and a censure resolution would be prudent. Unfortunately, that is not where we are today."

Despite photos of well-known ANTIFA figures inside the Capitol appearing on social media McCarthy also said, "Some say the riots were caused by antifa… There's absolutely no evidence of that and conservatives should be the first to say so."

McCarthy has also reportedly asked other Republicans whether he ought to call on Mr. Trump to resign in the aftermath of last week’s riot at the Capitol, according to three Republican officials briefed on the conversations. While he has said he is personally opposed to impeachment, he and other party leaders did not mount an official effort to defeat the push, and according to the New York Times McCarthy was working on Tuesday to build support for a censure resolution to rebuke the president for his actions.

House Republican Conference Chairwoman Liz Cheney went even further, the party's third-ranking House leader, announced on Tuesday that she would vote to impeach President Donald Trump, becoming the highest-ranking official from the GOP to support charging and removing him from office following the riot at the Capitol last week.

"The President of the United States summoned this mob, assembled the mob, and lit the flame of this attack. Everything that followed was his doing. None of this would have happened without the President," said Cheney. "The President could have immediately and forcefully intervened to stop the violence. He did not.

"There has never been a greater betrayal by a President of the United States of his office and his oath to the Constitution," she added according to reporting by CNN. "I will vote to impeach the President."

CNN also reported Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has indicated that he believes impeaching Trump will make it easier to get rid of the President and Trumpism from the Republican Party, according to “a source with knowledge of the matter.”

The New York Times also reported McConnell concluded that President Trump committed impeachable offenses and believes that Democrats’ move to impeach him will make it easier to purge Mr. Trump from the party, according to people familiar with Mr. McConnell’s thinking.

McConnell has made no commitments on whether he will vote to convict Trump if the Senate conducts an impeachment trial. However, according to the New York Times advisers to the Senate Republican leader had already privately speculated that a dozen Republican senators — and possibly more — could ultimately vote to convict Mr. Trump in a Senate trial that would follow his impeachment by the House. Seventeen Republicans would most likely be needed to join Democrats in finding him guilty. After that, it would take a simple majority to disqualify Mr. Trump from ever again holding public office.

Donald Trump has often told his supporters “it’s not me they are after, it is you; I’m just in the way.” Yesterday’s impeachment farce on Capitol Hill proves he was right, because it is obvious it is not just Donald Trump they are after, it is the movement that he created that they want to kill.
